Thanks to Chinabiker's help, Glen Heggstad (Known as Striking Viking online) has managed to sponsor an adventure rider from China to tour the US for about a month.

Assuming all goes as planned, he should be starting his journey in the US from LA come the last week of October. So far in the first 24hours, riders have raised 600 bucks to help him on his way around the US. Now that's moto-lovin-licious!

Check out the thread below on ADVRider for more info and wish him luck!

It's a great idea that the ADVRider folks started last year. I pitched in a few bucks so a guy from Vladivostok could tour the US last Fall.

He was well known already for helping out international riders who passed though his home town, so it was a good feeling to pitch in.

I look forward to following this new thread too. Think I can find a few beer dollars that I don't really need to consume. . .

    Cheers,

    Dan K.

No doubt a very worthy cause and a unique program. I think it actually started two years ago with a guy from India named Chanderjeet.

If you guys got the itch to pitch into the Karma bank, this is not a bad time! 5 or 10 bucks will do and They're using PayPal so it couldn't be much easier.

In less than two days, they must have collected over 1,000 USD of pure contributions!

Hard core international motorcycle love is what I'm talking about! BOOYAH!

Where is this as of now? I know there's money flowing, but is there a bike yet? Perhaps we can throw in a Shineray or a Lifan 200cc to make him feel at home?

He should be coming at the end of October. Currently he has a
BMW 650 to ride and has many many miles of touring to do in one month.

It would be neat if he met some people who ride Chinese bikes though!

He rides a R1200GSA in Beijing and can't see how poor he is that needs sponsorship to tour the States. I would be fun to watch his face when he is offered a Chinese made bike to complete the trip.

True he rides a 1200GS in China but he's basically a grunt at the BMW dealership so its not like he's rolling in it.

One of the pre-requisits of the program was speaking English well enough to get around the US on their own. What percentage of poor, experienced, Chinese riders in China you think can both speak and write fluent English, take photos, blog consistently and handle large bikes at high speeds?

Either way, it's certain he would not have had the opportunity to come to the US if it wasn't for the program and it will be interesting to see and hear his impressions of the country (albeit in a rather unusual set of circumstances).

I agree though that handing him a Chinese bike would be an awesome moment to capture.... maybe a CJ750?

    Greetings All,

For those of you who have not been following Lu Fei's adventure over on ADVRider, you've been missing a good story. Including some nail-biting from two weeks ago.

Lu Fei blew in to Colorado (Literally) the day before yesterday. He spent last night at my house and enjoyed his first "real" Chinese food since he arrived in the U.S.

We rode out this morning so he could continue his adventure. It was only about 28 degrees F this morning, but clear-blue skies everywhere. I helped him to choose his route through some of our excellent Colorado roads and passes. He should be in Moab, UT tomorrow.

    Cheers,

Right on Dan! Glad you guys got to meet up! Did he seem to be having a good time and taking the riding well?

He'll LOVE Moab... it's like a dual sport/mountain biking heaven out there.

    CC,

I can say he's literally having the ride of his life. Just enough "adventure" to keep it interesting, and lots of new experiences.

He's going to be meeting another ADVRider out in Moab, so he should get a good taste of the riding there also. I've been to Moab many times and still can't get enough of that area. Great trail bike, maountain bike riding and climbing, and hiking, and . . .

BTW, one can follow Lu Fei's daily progress via SPOT:

It's identified as "Jeffry's" SPOT as it is a loaned unit.
