    I have a 2006 Shineray XY200I
I tried to find by search, but was coming up empty....

From what I was able to find out about the motor, it's the same as an XR200 ?

    Right now I have a 17 front sprocket and a 49 rear

Has anyone found a good combo that will help this little bike do at least 60mph without making it sound like it will blow up?

Also, where is a good source for the sprockets?

I checked the carb to see what the previous owner had the settings at, and to clean out the carb since it sat for a year without being ran.

It has the 98 jet, and the air/fuel was out to 2 1/2 turns with the needle at the upper most spot.

Thursday night I reset the carb to the third clip from the top, 2 turns out on the a/f screw. the bike started easily now, but i have not had the chance to ride it after setting everything.

I finally got the chance to ride the bike this weekend after ( the honey do list was done ) re-adjusting the settings....

it started easier, but was bucking as soon as I got on the throttle,
re-did the clip to the second from the top, same thing, bucking.

put everything back to where it was originally, still bucked...

this told me it wasnt the carb.
I put dielectric on all electrical connections and put the clip back to the third setting, and the a/f back at 2 turns out.

still bucked, and little to no spark.

cleaned all ground areas, coil, volt reg etc and tried it again

that must have been it !!

the bike starts great, and runs even better. so much that it feels like it has more power .

i'll check the plug after running the bike for a few days, but for now it's set to the same settings as our CRF230 and it's running great, now just have to wait for the rain to stop

Still looking for a good place to get a rear sprocket and a good all around teeth combo.

    AllK,

Not sure if a convenient direct sprocket replacement will be available for your ride so you may have to dig through some specs. If you can take the old one off and have a set of calipers handy, JTSprockets has a good search database of sprockets you can compare. Start by searching through what you think may be similar bikes.

What is the bike's current top speed comfort level?

Comfort wise about 45, with a little extra to maybe hit 55.
at 55 there is no get out of the way room, it's maxed.

If I can get 55-60 comfortably, i'd be happy.

    I'll check the link. thanks

If the bike is taking a lot of weight and is also used for real trail riding, changing the gear ratios may effect the off-road performance (esp. in hill climbing).

If you're not worried about that, I'd say start by dropping 3-5 teeth in the back. That should get you a little closer to street-able gearing without loosing too much climbing power. The 17t up front already sounds pretty big and may or may not be able to take a larger sprocket in the sprocket housing without grinding something out.

I have a 2010 Shineray 200 in Honduras. I have a 17t in front and just changed from the stock 50t rear to a 45t. That helped w/o hurting off road too much. I'd still like more top speed though and would try a 42t if I could find one. My speedometer broke after three weeks and so I don't know speeds. That's the worst thing I know about Shineray here. The only thing guaranteed is whats inside the engine. NOTHING else.

Can you get a mate with a gps to follow you for a bit? My Kinlon finally got to around 100 kph on the clock after breaking in, but a gps check showed it was actually doing 85 kph so speedos on these things can be crap anyway. Can you tell Alkamp where you got the sprocket and its specs please? If he is still about that is.

been a while since I was on...
I found a new 45 rear on e-bay for $10 that was a perfect fit.
the bike with some more minor tweeks will top at about 65mph now.
the spedo seems to be true on my bike, that's with the gps and by radar gun
I have not had any issues with the bike at all, that's been my daily commuter too

Hi mate, welcome back. Good to see that an easy sprocket change made the difference and good to see that the bike is serving you well on daily commutes. We need to read this ordinary positive stuff as much as the bad reports! Any pics?
