#1 MIC sends letter to lift lead law ban...01-15-2010, 09:47 PM
Those of us following the motorcycle regulatory laws in the US know about the Lead-Law ban on many products largely due to the fear that children will eat or ingest some parts of toys with lead based materials. This law, SOMEHOW , managed to apply to children's motorcycles as well which caused many dealerships to be stuck with loads of inventory that was against federal regulations to sell. Recognizing the full-throttle bureaucratic stupidity of the regulation, citing it's possible destructive impact on the future of the sport and industry, some dealers sold them anyway - literally challenging the authorities to come stop them... with no response.
Just recently, Paul Vitrano of the Motorcycle Industry Council wrote a letter to Chairman of the Consumer Protection Agency to amend the bill to exclude children's powersports products. The letter is attached.
Right now is a critical time to help out the industry, both present and future.
