I was checking out Benelli, and wow they have a great history, but some of their bigger bikes such as this 2007 Tornado

are still outside of Chinese manufacturing capability.

But there are some engine designs which could be made in China...

What about this engine or whole bike even, or a slightly simplified and detuned version?

    Model: Benelli BX 449 Cross
    Year: 2008
    Category: Cross / motocross

    Engine and transmission

Displacement: 449.00 ccm (27.40 cubic inches)

    Compression: 12.5:1
    Bore x stroke: 98.0 x 59.5 mm (3.9 x 2.3 inches)

    Chassis and dimensions

Front brakes diameter: 260 mm (10.2 inches)
    Rear brakes: Single disc
Rear brakes diameter: 220 mm (8.7 inches)
    Speed and acceleration
    Other specifications
Fuel capacity: 9.00 litres (2.38 gallons)

Make this and a motard version Qian Jiang!

Or even this classic engine in a modern styled bike....

    Benelli 254 Quattro 1981
Engine; Air cooled, four stroke, transverse four cylinder, OHV
    Capacity; 231
    Bore x Stroke: 44 x 38.mm

If they own Benelli, they have or can probably get the blueprints for these engines.

Without consciousness, space and time are nothing; in reality you can take any time -- whether past or future -− as your new frame of reference. Death is a reboot that leads to all potentialities.

You left the price off; isn’t that what your after a better price? Its $9,000 isn’t it; $10,000 for the 505.
Those are new bikes for Bennelli in 2008 was that the year they introduced them?
Could those be entirely manufactured in China…I would say yes they absolutely could all that takes is a supply chain to do so, its not outside of there capability to build those, it is out side there ability to research and develop them in china. But the supply chain is in Italy and needs to be in china all the bits need to come from a local supply to get the price down. But each parts price goes up because it would have to be researched and developed, unless they can get the supply chain to shift to china with them. Some of the parts may already be, the plastic parts the less complex parts may be?
If they manufactured that bike in china then it could be sold were? What would you charge for the bike?
If you launched Benneli in the US would you do it with just a lowered cost Enduro? Or would you manufacture the entire lowered cost line? They could do just dirt and dirt street variants? They have droves of smaller siblings that could be placed under that bike.
I would say they may just do that and then the Bennelli would come in just under the KTM and the Kawasaki 450 bikes in price and just above them in performance ?
I doubt that you could sell Chinese made Bennili’s in Italy, maybe but I doubt it. But they would sell in the US if priced under the leading competitors.
They capitalized Bennelli they feed the research and development for this bike, which is not a cheap bike.
The other brands they are selling the Keeway and Generic align on the Enduro style bikes. That all could be or you could say evolve into a full line of dirt and dual sports. That engine is just what they needed, 450-500cc is just what they need. They now have to develop the underlings for a full line.
But do not get too excited it will only lower the prices marginally, they will sell just below the competition. Which is the KLX 450 and The KTM 450, which are current leaders and selling for around $8-9k USD.
This is the focus of the other brands they sell:
