04-13-2010, 06:40 AMHi,
I post this here hoping someone has more 'China experience' than me, because i tried everything I know, I can't find a supplier.
I am trying to find material to build a foldable kayak, plans if anyone interested the site is not easy to follow, but it's most famous for home builders, unless you read German(I don't).
I tried Alibaba, suppliers only do wholesale. I found a local steel market here in Kunming, but they don't have any Aluminum pipe. I also found a local Industrial market, they have all sorts of tools and material, but no one has any practical use for Aluminum pipe, so they don't stock any. I only found square pipe used for balcony rails.
I only need about 20 meters of different diameters, 6063 grade is great, but 6061 will also work. Maybe someone here knows a factory near them, or has more contacts than me?
Any help appreciated, Thanks.

I'm afraid i can't help much from up here in suzhou, but i can suggest a different solution to kayak transportation if you don't manage to build an inflatable one:

Maybe you should try a local hardware/home improvement place, It looks like that frame was made from EMT conduit and if you can't find that maybe try PVC pipe?

04-18-2010, 01:23 AMPVC is too flexible. EMT conduit is made of steel, too heavy. The local hardware places, and i've checked plenty, always stock the same stuff. Everyone wants to sell the same thing.
Felix, that is exactly why i want to build an inflatable, or foldable. folds up into a nice small bag i can simply carry on my back. Can even take with me where ever i go. I don't need a sidecar to carry it
