Dis,
Much thanks for you well wishes. I want to go into those areas but they are currently heavily restricted and would need a special pass to go in. It's probably already crazy enough as is. I doubt that picture was mine, but it may be a buddy of mine who was trapped in a mountain village only a few kms away from the initial epicenter. I can't tell without seeing it.
Chengdu (with the "g") is the name of the place and is the capitol of the Sichuan province. It is about 60miles away from the epicenter of the first 7.8 quake.

Just when things were starting to get normal. At 10PM local time, the government makes an official announcement that there will be high risk of more powerful aftershocks for the next two days.
Not sure how they predict this but people are running out of buildings again.

This past weekend a few of us took a trip to ChingCheng Mountain near Chengdu to help some fellow riders recover their bikes. MyChinaMoto member "Just Charlie" was trapped on the mountain the day of the earthquake and had to hike down the next morning.
- A sample of the damage caused by the earthquake and successive aftershocks -
ChingCheng mountain towards the base looks alright but as you get higher theres' dramatically more damage. The army was there working on clearing roads, some of which were totally destroyed.
Some landslides had completely crushed some homes, where the corpses still lay buried.
Large groups of refugee tents have been set up at the base of the mountain and the area seems to be clean and well stocked.
The local that are left seem to be in good spirits although they don't seem to have much to do and are very friendly.

Yes, it is a difficult time for people who are effected. They seem to be alright though and waiting for someone to help them get new homes. Millions of people without homes living in tents...it's amazing!
Also interesting is they just passed a new rule in Sichuan (maybe all of China) that disallows the use of plastic bags. Now we have to carry bags with us to the store which is okay because there's much less garbage on the streets!
The new law made a big difference over-night and I'm happy to see that. I hope other countries ban plastic bags too...what a waste and eye-sore.
