without this "little helper" for using internet, in China we cannot see photos posted with ImageEvent, Picasa ......., no more videos posted on Viddler, Vimeo, Youtube .......

all the fine ride reports from Chinabiker, my posted videos > gone for this chinese platform. I am so angry!
any ideas? what can we do now? simply dont care and hope that anybody has this "friendly little helper"?

Sabine, I don't follow. Are you suggesting that something has changed for viewing blocked sites from inside the GFW?

    Sabine,

For videos in China I have enabled YouKu embedding...which you would think they won't block. Your old videos are still visible outside the country and will still show up to others not in China.

Regarding pictures/images, I guess the safest thing is to go Chinese site as well. I know it's an irritating proposition to alwyas have to change providers AND it scatters your resources all over the web making them harder to manage but I guess that's a condition of living in the middle kingdom!

I've only been in mcm for a few months, but I do not remember ever being able to watch blocked sites that were embedded inside mcm unless i was running a veepeeyen or similar wall-scaler.

I agree with Carl, i might be a pain in the euphemism but probably the only reliable way to host photos and videos is to go chinese. Carl has now made it easy for us to embed youku videos, photo.163 seems to be a popular choice for image hosting.

Having said that, i'm still using flickr for my pictures. let's see how long that lasts...

(We automatically filter and block content containing prohibited words and unacceptable recorded content through content recognition technology. Then, part-time editors on duty around the clock will screen all uploads one by one. Full time editors will monitor all content during office hours. We have also been developing technology toward content screening over the last two years, including video (MD5 fingerprinting) and picture- and text content-recognition technology. These technologies help us to screen out inappropriate content and prioritize potential risk levels for all content. Based on this input, our team of reviewers, working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 3 shifts, will screen all content before it appears on Youku.)

from the original Youku Website. nobody can say that he didn`t know.
the video I posted today would have been blocked on that site, because I used the words "license" and "legal", and if they also dont like Beijing Biker Scene ...........
