Excellent stuff and great article that is bilingual. Good to see that this riding course/event was so well attended.
Also great to see that there are some less discriminatory cities in China that don't ban motorcycles.

07-06-2010, 04:52 AMWas told there must be over 500,000 Expats (including Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan chinese) who lived and worked in the Greater Shanghai and neighboring areas, many of these guys must have years of
Motorcycle sport experience back home, but after seeing BG promoting this sport in Shanghai for over 5 years, there are still a sad small numbers of guys that comes to these Track days
no matter rain or shine, we have to let more people know that there are Motorcycle sports and racing in China that its not hard to be a part of.

Well I don't know where they would have got these numbers from... but half a million foreigners in SH including those from Macau, Taiwan and HK -no friggin way! No matter the numbers only a small percentage would be into motorbikes, and then marketing & then delivering the right experience to that crowd has got to be done right. Having been involved in racing one way or another back in NZ/OZ over the years trackside, either as part of a competitor support team or as part of providing medical cover... what's organised here has a long way to go. Granted BG from HK has a better polished program, but even then it just doesn't stack up to anything I've been part of before. Problem is Chinese seem to want all the bells and whistles but then say oh no, we can take this short cut "we don't need/want this part" thereby removing those same bells and whistles and providing something much less. As with everything in life the sum of all of the parts is greater than the whole -IMO Chinese here just don't get that!
Aside from the track, marketing and the experience the whole infrastructure of motorcycling in China is such that it makes it damn hard for the average foreigner to really do motorcycling here. It takes a real die-hard enthusiast not to be put off from the whole motorcycle experience. TIC!

07-06-2010, 09:17 AMThanks Doc, well put,
if you add all the Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau Chinese as expats, we truly believe it will hit the 1/2 mil mark if you count all the surrounding areas like ZHejiang, Jiangsu ..
Just the HK/Taiwan chinese alone will be close to 250,000 this is adding the figures from the HK/Taiwan Gov't.
Trying to ride a bike in China is a uphill battle, and only through the pure die hard passion we all had for Motorcycle sports that we'd lasted this long !!! but I stronger believe things will start changing
as you can't keep selling cars and very soon there will be 20 mil cars produced and no where to go.
Are you based in Shanghai, if yes, come out to the F1 track this sunday so we can have a chat.
