Yeah, it reads as honest. And I also believe in redemption. However the cost of that is silent suffering, not spewing your guts, emptying old poisons all over the rest of the gang you played with. This portrayal of Landis is of an immature, jealous and spiritually bereft man, now lost in self pity, not one bathed in the light that Azra 'il truly brings those that repent. He needs to cycle up a few more mountains, in silence, before he sees that light.
