Interesting to see that motorcycle manufacturers are well ahead of car makers when it comes to electric drives.

07-20-2010, 08:24 AMYeah, I've been a fan of the DS for some time and of the Brammo Enertia (BTW, Brammo are the same people that make the amazing Ariel Atom for the US), but I can't believe that they didn't eve mention the new Brammo Empulse in the article!
(God I freaking want one)
edit: oh well, I just noticed that the article is older than the launch of the new Empulse, so I'll forgive them, hehehehe.Last edited by PandaBeat; 07-20-2010 at 08:25 AM. Reason: adding video

02-07-2011, 01:35 PMBumping this old thread with a nice new addition, care of Gizmag.
Agility is a British outfit developing an electric sport bike called the Saietta. Gizmag has a youtube interview with one of the company's founders, who makes a really interesting observation that is relevant to our ongoing discussions (and frustrations) about the relatively hidebound nature of Chinese motorcycle and ebike makers. It's a seven-minute interview (and you'll need a vpn/pr*xy in China), and the comments I'm referring to are in the final segment...

He says that the next 3-5 years will show huge development in ebikes for a simple reason: unlike, say, Ducati, which has a certain amount of R&D spend to make its bikes incrementally better, sexier, faster, safer, the electric locomotion sector is being driven by the R&D departments of some of the biggest electronics innovators in the world -- Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi, Apple, you name it -- and their innovations will be cumulative and leapfrogging.
He does not comment about China, but I will: China is getting a lot of buzz about its purported "rise" and its advances in greentech, etc, but just look at where this is coming from. Yes, bureaucrats in Beijing. It's being driven only indirectly by the market, and few real innovations are emerging inside China, though China is excelling at purloining designs and making them on the cheap.
Finally, it's hard to imagine any Chinese company -- motorcycle maker or otherwise -- coming up with a design like this:

02-07-2011, 01:57 PMHymmm, I don't like the apparent rake angle on this "Agility", seems much too upright, even for a sport bike. Perhaps it's a trick of this image or they may also have changed it.
