DAY TEN - The MKRIDE team have sucessfully navigated their way out of the flooded regions along the border of China and North Korea. Today we were blessed with clear skies and sunny conditions and we used that great weather to make up some time, traveling some 600km straight across Jilin Province. We are currently in the town of BaiChang, Jilin - just 80km from the border of Inner Mongolia. Tomorrow we will begin our long journey along the China / Mongolia border. Thank you to all those who have written pledging their support, your kind words are much appreciated.

DAY 11 - The MKRIDE Team traveled just under 300km today from Baichang, Jilin province to Wuchagou, Inner Mongolia. At the moment we are just 10km away from Mongolia proper, and we'll begin our journey through the grasslands starting early tomorrow morning. It feels great to be out of the rain, the blue skies and green grasslands of Inner Mongolia are pure riding pleasure!

DAY 12 - The MKRIDE TEAM successfully traveled 386km today and safely arrived in East Ujimqin Banner, Inner Mongolia, China. The absolute highlight of the day was how our team gently tip-toed their way along a military access road that "is" the border between China and Mongolia, and what a road it was! The road in question included about 290km of uninterrupted rolling grasslands, no villages, no homes, no gas stations, nothing; a truly stunning part of China. We are currently making our way across Inner Mongolia which is a lovely place, with lovely people.

DAY 13 - The MKRIDE team safely arrived at the Huitengxile grasslands in Inner Mongolia. We had an amazing day traversing grasslands and deserts. The Huitengxile Grasslands are a popular tourism destination and home to China's second largest wind turbine farm. Tomorrow we'll push for Hohhot.

DAY 14 - The MKRIDE team has safely arrived in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. Today the team endured a day full of contrasts, as the morning was spent riding off-road through the Huitengxile grasslands, and the afternoon was spent fighting incredible truck traffic and road construction. The morning was wonderful and almost surreal as the grasslands were cool, brisk, windy and near empty. Both Colin and Ryan had almost the entire region to themselves as they rode around sheep herders and hundreds of wind turbines that have been erected there. The afternoon, on the other hand, was hot, dirty, and just down right nasty as the MKRIDE team got stuck in the famous 700 km traffic jam from Inner Mongolia to Beijing. But while that traffic jam was heading East, the MKRIDE team was heading West and it just didn't make any difference as the roads in any direction were an absolute mess. The state run media is suggesting that the massive traffic jam has cleared and that all is well. Trust me, it is not. It took the MKRIDE Team over four hours to travel 50km. Nasty indeed.

THE TRAFFIC JAM
The central authorities in China are saying that China's worst-ever traffic jam, stretching several hundred kilometers west from Beijing, has been cleared. This is just simply not true. The MKRIDE team traveled west through Inner Mongolia the last few days, the worst of which was yesterday, and were caught up in the mess. Basically all of the main expressways and highways heading East are blocked by insane truck traffic. Yesterday the MKRIDE team struggled to cover 50km in just over four hours as trucks heading East began taking up the West bound traffic lane. No traffic police could be found anywhere. Many of the drivers we spoke with had been in their trucks already for 3-4 days. This traffic jam is not clearing, but getting worse, and it extends at least from Beijing to Hohhot.Ryan Pyle

DAY 15 - Today the MKRIDE team enjoyed an off-day in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. The day allowed riders Colin and Ryan to rest, relax and organize their images from the trip so far. Our images will be up on our MKRIDE BLOG sometime in the next 24 hours. For the moment you can view our images at the MKRIDE Fan site on Facebook, please be sure to join our group if you haven't already. Furthermore, Colin and I have prepared some details about our trip so far: we have traveled 15 days from Shanghai to Hohhot and covered 4654 km. We have been caught up in some the of the worst flooding China has seen in years, on the China-North Korea border, and yesterday we got caught up in part of the massive 400+km traffic jam stretching across Inner Mongolia to Beijing. China has proved to be a fantastic host so far and we've throughly enjoyed our journey to date. With 25% of our behind us we can't wait to get started on the next portion of our journey. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: BMW China, Touratech, The Tomson Group, Airhawk, Pelican Products, Kodak, Oakley, Cardo Systems, Lowe Pro & Mandarin House. As well as remind everyone out there that our Charitable partner for our expedition around China is the SEVA Foundation who for more than 30 years, Seva has served people around the world who are struggling for health, cultural survival and sustainable communities. You can learn more about SEVA by visiting their website. We also want to thank all our fans and followers for all their emails offering support and kind words. We hope that you'll continue to follow the Middle Kingdom Ride, and continue to share our journey with your family, friends and colleagues. We'll be sure to keep you informed and up to date.
