    Drac,

China has a 250cc legal limit on motorcycles so 250+ are very very difficult to sell. Other countries may still see these bikes as long as there are importers willing to buy them by the container full.

In ChongQing I met more than a couple guys from South America looking for 250+ bikes to import so you never know! Demand for the bikes is a big question right now and it takes time to develop a good working relationship with factories.

That legal restriction on bike engines doesn't seem to be applied equally, as we can se and read the reviews of the JH600 and realize in other pages that there's a growing number ofchineses purchasing that bike; also, i've read about expeditions made in that bike and others of medium cilindrade...

i'm a little bit ignorant about the political organization of China, because at first sight, seems to me to be a federal organization, as some laws may apply on some places and not others...

please, i'll be grateful if you may tell me something more about that topic (legal issues)

Greetings from the other side of the world...

    Drac,

Although I've heard several times from different people over the years that 250cc is the max allowed in China, it has come to my attention that the 250cc restriction might not be nationwide and that certain provinces may allow bikes larger than 250.

I'm checking into it but f someone with verifiable sources could clear this up, that would be a great help.

The size of the engin is not the limit in China.
The only limit is based on the emission standard. For example, 2 stroke bikes can not get registerd.
The goverment is going to upgrade its emission standard from Euro II to Euro III in July 1, 2010.
In addition, some Chinese cities won't allow motocycle to enter the city centre.

Every province allow bikes larger than 250cc.

BMW, Ducati, Harly and Benelli can get registered anywhere in China. The condition is that you must pay the import tax for these imported bikes and prove that they are not smuggling bikes.

JH600 is legal in China, so does Lifan400, Xingyue400 and LD450. A lots of home made 300cc, 400cc and 500cc tricycles were also legal in China.

All the owners of Xingyue 400 in China have got their bikes registered. Use the qq to contact the bike owners. The number of the qq group is 8907195

visit the link below for a Chinese user's review:
    http://motorcycle.sh.cn/t_490168_1.htm

Many Chinese bike fans consume smuggling big bikes (250cc-1800cc) from the black market (Jieshi County, Guangdong Province). The goverment will never issue plate for thses bikes. I think this caused misunderstanding on the goverment's policy. In mainland China, 98 percent of the big bikes (250cc + ) are second hand bikes smuggled from Japan and Hong Kong. Many of which were assembled from parts of acident bikes or abandoned bikes. Some are stolen bikes which worth more. These bikes killed a lot of young riders and caused big problems for the goverment.
