According to this China Daily article:

    http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bw/2008...nt_6694169.htm

And on the other end of the spectrum: "There are till 800 million rural residents in China whose living standards are increasing. For a traditional Chinese farmer, when he becomes rich, he will build a house, buy a television set and then a motorcycle," says Yin Mingshan, president and founder of Chongqing Lifan Group.

The article says "demand for motorcycles and automobiles in China is approaching its peak"

I hope I'm not in China when everyone in China has a car or motorcycle you will not be able to move on the roads.

I would have thought China had along way to go before every one had a car.

It's outrageous. There's now over 500 new cars added to the streets of Chengdu every day and many of them aren't cheap either.

We've got Ferraris, Bentlys, Hummers, Escalades and other super expensive and/or overpriced monsters. Don't forget the new glut of Audi's and BMWs. The change has been tremendous and only in the last 2-3 years. They try to keep road improvements going but it's slow and people park on sidewalk in the city.

Motorcycles are by far the most space efficient vehicle for most daily transportation. They can and do carry a whole family and take up less than 1/4 the space of most care who usually carry only 1 or 2 passengers and cause rediculous jams when everyone is "Me First" t-boned into each other at intersections.

Not everyone will have a car but if the farmers can get some better quality more reliable and powerful bikes...I say more power to them!
