Anyhow, I hope to get the software fixed again soon. It was working so nicely before - I'm really upset, that I didn't make a back-up before upgrading. The most basic mistake...
    Pfaelzer,

Nice ride report. Thanks for sharing. Is the Garmin offset fix only valid for your model, or is there one that works across models now? Last time I took a driving trip in CHina, the offset really killed the GPS usefulness for me.

    Cheers,

Umm, looks like no radiator guard? Yet ..... lol.

The radiator guard is on my list jape - it's gonna come sooner or later, just watch the JH600 thread below.

    Hi Dan,

I understand this is fixable (at the right place) for all Garmin devices, which can use the downloadable map from the Garmin homepage. It doesn't work on my older GPSMAP 278 model.

    Dear Pfaelzer,

If this was the same Garmin we updated with the offset in Shanghai last time you visited, I'm pretty confident we can have them recalibrate it again at little or no cost. I'd be happy to do that for you, if you want to send the Garmin up to me. One caveat: This can't happen till after 1 November due to a busy travel and work schedule.

Also, I'm in Beijing and don't have my Garmin with me, but somehow I remember that the China pinyin map that you and I both use was stored on a removable chip. I was just assuming that the de-offset would have been saved on the chip with the map, but from what you are saying it seems the de-offset is embedded in the firmware, and got wiped when you reinstalled the firmware. Is that right? Apologies for my naivete, but is there not any way to have the offset calibration in the chip with the map?

    cheers!

    YES! YES! YES!

The JH600's horn is ridiculously weak! It is roughly on par with my e-scooter's horn.

I've asked the Beijing Jialing service centre to find some big "honkers" for my JH600 - we'll have to wait and see what arrives.

FYI, I picked up my military JH600B yesterday and it has the exact same horn. "Watch out Mr Enemy - here I come! mini-toot mini-toot"

I'd die from embarrassment before any bullets hit me.

    Hi euphonius,

it seems that the calibration was hard-copied on the device. I should have made a back-up before... I will have to be in Shanghai beginning of November for business. Hopeto meet with you then and I think I will have time to go to the shop to get the device fixed up again. It doesn't bother me too much since I also use the printed google maps for my smaller trips. I have no idea, if this off-set calibration works from the chip as well, but what I know is, that I will do a back-up after the next calibration.

    Cheers,
    AW.

When can we see some pictures of your new B-type?
Here is, what my guys have organized and they say it is much louder... we will use two horns.

    Need to check next week.

I've always heard the biggest and best is the Stebel Nautilus, which is an air horn with its own mini compressor.

This "Bad Boy" is even prettier...

My only problem is I don't want to be sitting on top of a 139 decibel horn without earplugs. Are these directional?

They attach with a single bolt, and take standard 12v wiring.

I imagine these all come from China. Taobao anyone?

I have forwarded this to my friend - let's see what he can find. I might install the 139dB horn separately for "special cases...
