I'm always looking for someone to ride with in China. If anyone is in country or is coming to China send me and email or look me up on skype.

you have been getting some miles on the Shineray alone, I can only imagine when/if you meet up with someone there.

The Shineray loves the miles, but riding is always more fun when you have someone with you.

04-24-2008, 01:28 PMI'll be riding down to Shanghai from Beijing for the MotoGP.
After that, I'll probably be riding up to Ulaan Baatar either in May or June.
Regds,
Jim

Sounds like a fun tip Jim. Make sure to post a ride report. I'll be riding North from Guangxi to Beijing in late June or Early July. When I get back to Beijing I'll come check out you shop again and pick your brain about a few things.

Where are you based. I'm planning to get a bike in August or September. Gotta have an international licence to get a Chinese licence I've been told. I'm in Chongqing and where there aren't too many foreigners, especially bike owners.

Hello Chinggis,
You are in the paradise of chinese motorcycling. Most of the manufacturers are in CQ or around.
Regarding the driving license, China doesn't acknowledge the IDL so you will have to pass the exam and your national DL (translated) should be enough for that. Rules are slightly different from one province to another so better to check with some locals.

Chinggis,
I've got a buddy in ChongQing who's been trying to get a license there for a few years and he says it seems unusually difficult. He may actually move to Chengdu just to get away from what he considers excessive bureaucratic (even by Chinese standards) red tape.
Maybe there's something he's missing...I hope so. Have you met anyone who lives in ChongQing who has successfully gotten a Chinese license?
