CC, the good folks who make the rules here in CQ don't seem to see the big picture very clearly.

They're desperate (well, they're very, very, very keen) on foreign companies investing here and there seems to be a strong drive to attract inward foreign investment. However, this doesn't seem to have translated into reduced red tape and bureacracy at foreigner grassroots level yet. So, yes, it seems that getting a licence legitimately is difficult, car or bike, although car appears to be easier.

However, I am led to believe that there is a legitimate way of getting a car or bike licence with the assistance of a local company. They've already had a look at my licence document from South Africa and say they need an IDP, for both types of licence. By the way, I've also heard from Jialing that the the JH600 can be registered in CQ.

If your friend is able and willing to wait until August before packing for Chengdu, I will be returning with an IDP and will put the theory to the test. If it all works out I'll become a fully paid up member of this community with my own JH600.

If your friend is a member of this board ask him/her to send me a private message and I'll see if I can put him in touch the the right people.

Hi Butch and the RDMC Shanghai crew.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm really new around here and have been hovering in the shadows since arriving in CQ in August last year. I've also been out of the bike scene since 1990 but I'm hoping to officially rejoin later this year.
