The service manual has a different cam chain tension device then what is actually on my bike?

Here is what is in the service manual book but the parts book has a different type.
It has device that has an adjustment screw on top.

Then it has these instruction for manually adjusting it…the type above

That part was replaced with this part and I am pretty sure it is supposed to be automatic and not adjustable? This is from a DR200 parts book and identical to what is on my bike.

It looks like it has notches and would moves as the slack increased in the chain? The spring would have constant tension on it and then it reacts to pressure from the chain? The spring locked out until the chain push past a notch then it springs the guide forward to the next notch?

Point is the device can only be removed and cleaned, if you hear what sounds like a cam chain noise then the device is removed and inspected, what notch is it on? No more notches left the chain needs to be replaced?

I am only guessing since the manual I have is outdated, so I have to guess? I paid not to and still have too…Thanks Quality Blink.

Those cam chain tensioners are set by spring rate. You can push the contact rod in after liftring that little spring loaded locking arm that fits into the notches of the rod.

One pressed in, you can install it on the bike. Keep in mind at this time, you shouldn't have the spring and back screw installed. When you install the spring and back screw, the spring pushes on the contact rod and sets the tension. The locking arms makes sure the rod doesn't retract once set.

Also, you may want to check your oil pump.
