Transorientale China and Russia Rally

The same year the Dakar was cancelled, another enduro rally for bikes, cars and trucks appeared in Asia taking contestant's from St. Petersburg through Kazakhstan to Beijing! Most of the route is in China and crosses many of the same areas as China's Taklamakan Desert Rally.

It looks like it could be a major event if hosted properly. Rene Metge, an experienced French rally organizer worked with the Russian, Kazakh and Chinese governments to get it running and set up a very red web page offering lots of good information about the rally. In addition to detailed stage maps and info, their web site hosts a wealth of information including an up to date roster of competitors.

Set to start on June 12 and run to the 28th, it will be interesting to see how this first time event turns out!

Rene Metge is a very well known racer in France. He has won the Dakar many times in different categories (cars, trucks). Few years ago, he organized a rally raid in Siberia and Mongolia.
