I'm fat and need to exercise more. Would like to ride my mountain bike to work a few days every week, but it's 30 kilometers each way and 450 meters in elevation climbing. Basically a big mountain park area between my home and office. Unfortunately I don't have the time and energy to ride both ways.

I've seen some of these hybrid bikes on the net, but must admit I don't know shit about them. What I like is the fact that you still get some exercise while riding them, and the electric motor will help you get up the hills. I don't think range would be a problem, as it's only 30kms each way and then I can re-charge.

Anybody know more about this kind of transport? Reputable supplier? I wouldn't mind spending some cash on this as it would save a lot on gas and help keep me fit. I have a Cannondale Scalpel, any way to put the motor on it?

    Thanks!

Sounds like a good way to get healthy without going too over board. Fun project too.

Getting a motor onto your cannondale might be tough however. You can probably forget about the front wheel with its lefty shock and weird ass hub. Unless you're willing to swap the forks over to something more standard. Here are a couple of taobao links to get you started.

There seem to be some motors designed to be laced onto a back wheel too, but i don't know if the rearsets on the scalpel are standard spacing, you'll have to find out.

Don't know too many details about these things. I had just seen them on taobao before and thought i would post it here for your consideration!

Yeah, there's always a wise guy who wants to read sex, sex, sex into everything. I was referring explicitly and deferentially to her tattoo(s), and you just go drag in her boobs, which, as boobs go, could be said to be as nice as, or nicer than, her tattoo(s)......

I have a Bionx 350 watt bike conversion on my Trek with the lithium power pack. I put on 3400 km last summer. It will do 32 km per hour. and has a range of 30 or so km, depending on how much I pedal. It has a thumb throttle so I can pedal as much or as little as I want, or even not pedal at all. The kit comes with the motor installed on whatever rear wheel size you need. It's not cheap though at $1800 Canadian, but I feel it's worth it.

Thanks for many creative replies everyone .

I really like the Bionx 350 watt bike conversion, but I was hoping that I could find a similar system being ripped off by a Chinese company for half the price .

    Cheers!
