I know it's not China, but I finished a pretty epic journey through Vietnam on a Minsk 125 Russian bike. Check it out if you want.

    Dear Matt,

Armed as I am with a bulletproof VPN, I took a break today to enjoy your Ho Chi Minh Trail ride report. And enjoy it I did. My only regret is the blogspot format, as you have to blow up the pix by clicking on them to see them at any reasonable size. You'll get more readers in forums like MCM, ADVRider, etc, if you post your ride reports in full in a forum thread, rather than just linking to your blogspot blog in a message as you've done here. I suppose it's possible now to use your blogspot blog as a source for linking your pix into an MCM thread. I've just tried that here, and it looks OK, though I'm not sure whether that will display here inside China without a VPN....

Look at the ride reports of ChinaV, Pfaelzer, Franki and others. You'll see what I mean about an enjoyable ride report read with nicely sized and formatted pix.

And to anyone who has yet to read Matt's ride report, you won't be wasting your time to have a look.

    cheers

Thanks a lot for reading! Thanks for the tips as well. I am new to forums in general, and do a bit of work writing for travel magazines, sometimes linking to my blog, so I have been unfamiliar with the ride report posting format. In the future, I will post them as you said, as they are much easier to read on the forums. Pardon the newb linking!

As a side note, anyone can see all of the pictures on the picasa link at the top of the blog post. Thank you to everyone for reading. I hope to do a bit more writing for you guys when I get back to the middle kingdom!

You can still link to your blog and thus get higher google ratings, I think it helps if your blog is linked to from another site, that does that as much as visits for ratings. Maybe put it in your sig. and refer to it in threads again if you add anything of note unrelated to this particular forum? Same with picture albums, having the links there all helps.

Really cool ride. We are pondering entering through either Cambodia or Laos, but are rather unsure about the possibility of bringing the bikes in with us. Would you have any insight? We will be hitting the Vietnamese consulate in Pakse, Laos within the next 4-5 days, but if you know anything that'd be great!
