Ok, so I have a decent job lined up in Guangdong, where I have lived previously. Now, the thing is, I got an even better offer up in Inner Mongolia. In the city of Baotou to be specific. Has anyone done any riding up there? Slash, know the second hand market, slash know how long the actual riding season is? I hate to think that motorcycle riding would have such a large influence on my career, but the truth is, it does. Any help would be great!

Went to Inner Mongolia in May and froze my butt off. Went riding today in Guangdong and the weather was great. For length of riding season, you can't beat GD, but there's some pretty cool stuff up in IM.

Good to see you have your career priorities sorted .

    Cheers!

Its cold up there! Been in Inner Mongolia last week and we had -26°C - the oil sump of the car was "frozen" one morning.
That doesnt bother the locals, after we finished one guy said he has to ride home on his motorbike now, mind you minus twenities something degrees and 150km to go to his hometown. Tough guys!

But the food is great, the people and their hospitality even greater! If it would not be for the long cold winter it would be my choice. Its not getteing too hot in summer too.

    Damn, tough choice!

    Mongolia pros:
Must be an incredible place to ride
Clean air and stars at night
    Good people

    Mongolia cons:
    F*cking freezing half the year
    Riding could get monotonous
Probably harder to get bike parts

    Guangzhou pros:
    ChinaV lives there
    All year riding
Probably more twisty roads than i.m.

    Guangzhou cons:
    Pollution
    Eastern chinese obsession with Face
    ChinaV lives there

    You figure it out....

Not so fast, Felix. Yes, you'd think with all that open space that Inner Mongolia would be clean. But its cities are major polluters, and Baotou in particular is said to be one of the most polluted places on the planet. I remember seeing satellite pictures where you couldn't even see Baotou. OK, that was in the mid-1990s, so maybe they've cleaned up their act. But I doubt it.

Another big minus for Guangzhou: The total ban on motorcycles in the city.
Another plus: Proximity to Hong Kong.

    cheers
