    Dear all,

According to my - usually well informed source - the manufacturers Ja Ling, Jian She and QingQi are joining forces and would blend into one giant manufacturer. Does anybody in this forum have more information on this joint venture?

    Regards!

    Hi Bart,

I mentioned this in a couple threads before. Last time being the CIMA 2010 show report.

This is not necessarily a good thing. You take a handful of slow moving, unresponsive, state-owned enterprises and join them into one huge, slow moving, unresponsive, state-owned enterprise. These companies are government driven and have little passion for the motorcycle industry. If you take a look at the movers and shakers, it's the smaller companies that seem to be driving innovation here.

    Cheers!

Worse yet, the Übergruppe holding company "China South", which sounds so innocuous in English, is being a bit dishonest with the translation of its Chinese name, 中国兵器装备集团, which you can see in ChinaV's first image. A literal translation is China Ordnance Equipment Group Corporation. Yes, one of the biggest weapons makers in China. Vroom! Vroom!

Out of curiousity I just had a squiz over to their website and found this line: In terms of motorcycle industry, it is the largest motorcycle group in the world and has famous brands such as Jialing, Jianshe, Dayang and Qingqi, with the annual production capacity nearly 6 million sets.

Six million motorcycles a year! And they still know zip about customer service and marketing.

    TIC.

    cheers

    And it doesn't stop there.

According to a press release on Chinamotorworld (http://www.chinamotorworld.com/viewnews.asp?id=1563) ...

"The next step will be the integration of the seven Chinese major motorcycle brands including Jialing, Jianshe, Qingqi, Qingqi Suzuki, Dayang, Jianshe Yamaha and Qingqi Peugeot ... The motorcycle output and sales of the Chongqing Southern Motorcycle Co., Ltd will be increased to 12 million units next year from 6 million units of this year."

    Bigger is not always better.

    Hello All and ChinaV especially,

Thanks for the updates, I'm now getting a much better picture of what is going on. Interesting to me is the military history behind all this when you read the information well. As a true outsider it looks to me that China's growth in some areas has its roots in manufacturers (partially) owned/controlled by the military. Fascinating!

    Regards!
