None of the manufacturers adhere to only coping only a single manufactures engines. Typically, or you could say, the majority of the copies are of Honda engines and then Suzuki engines as well as Yamaha in that order.
Loncin introduced the GN250 engine last year, it is being offered as a packaged Loncin OEM standard sport bike design for export. The other model they offer has the 223cc SOHC which is based off a Honda design.

The Suzuki GN250 engine it’s a decent engine, it a SOHC 4-valve 249cc rated with about 18-19hp.
The Honda 223cc is rated at about 16-17hp, the water cooled 250 DOHC is rated at around 24-25hp and also has a six speed.

The GN250 engine is expandable, its base version of 250cc can be increased incrementally up to 350cc, in doing that it increases in HP up to 33hp. The intermediate 300cc at 22hp and the base engine is rated at 19hp.
I wonder about the claims of 33hp on the 350cc? The source of the largest displacement of that engine is unclear other then a company in china called national motors has been offering it in some motorcycles and ATV for some time.
Wonjan produces the GN250 and to Suzuki specs, then Loncin has its version of the GN250 and also the 300cc version only seems to be coming out of National Motors, at least they are altering the GN up to 350cc they get from another source?
Suzuki dropped the GN250, they offered it in the GN250 and in a few versions. The last of which was the GZ250 I believe that stopped when they closed their operations in Spain.
The offered it in a GN250, GN250-C and a model they called a Grass Tracker.
The Grass Tracker lives on in Japan with the new engine and the “C” was replaced with a ST/TU250.
Wonjan offers a EFI version of the 250cc in a “C” version in China and for export called a Volty originally by Suzuki. Loncin offers their version of the GN250 in bike they call a LX250-7 JedI and also the 300cc version they call a LX250-8.
Point is that the engine as line and considering what they sold best in would be the best approach to offering them. That being a line of Grass Trackers and also a version similar to the new ST/TU250 Suzuki offers to date.
(both of these have the modern Suzuki 250cc that they replaced the GN250 with)
ST250
Grass Tracker
I believe that they could easily frame the engines into a street standard and also a tracker.
The engines in three version 250,300 and 350 would offer a line for the models.

The key to success for the Chinese is partners, they need committed partners in the various markets. Such a line could be branded in many markets and cost can be contained through consistent mass production.
But partnering requires consistent offerings that the partners can align on, in this offer such bikes as that Hanway offers in a 125cc should be also offered. But also in the two versions a street standard and also a tracker version.
Offering a 125 through 223cc Honda type engine in these opens an opportunity to sell the 250-350cc versions Suzuki engines. It offer enough to carry a line in many markets and under one brand name.
This Hanway is not carried by AJS in the UK they do offer the Hanway dual sport though, but considering the market in the UK seems to me that AJS offering a line from 125cc and up versions, that are more standard and also in more of an alignment with what was sold under that brand historically, it seems that would be more appealing to customers. I am not saying the people importing at AJS should stop selling the other models, but they may want to consider what brand they use to sell those products under and what makes more sense to the customers.
Setting up a line for branding mean setting up a supply chain for a model line of consistent offerings. Then combining distribution to dealers does not have to include a common brand name. In distribution brands matters but when new and unknown then it is the sensibility of the customers that really matters most. In that they identify personally and often even to a nationalistic level of perception, is or does it make sense to them?

It's funny that as soon as you mention 'Hanway', this thread starts! http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...way-Xray-250NC Is this the Suzuki-style engine?

They seem to have some nice bikes, http://www.hanwaymotor.com/super-end...II%20250NC.htm
They are putting the 300cc DOHC Kawasaki water cooled engine in a motard. Their STR300 FY seems decent, but they do not seem to be making much penetration in the markets.
