Anyone ever taken the upper end (head) off. I'm seriously considering this winter sending mine to Weaver. He has done wonders with our twin the "Heist". He is eager to spread out & start working on the DF.
But before I pull it, will I run into issues of special tools?

Question. I have removed the exhaust emission gear, added blocking plate and blocked hose in intake. But a mechanic( car mechanic) was looking at my bike and suggested I put it all back as he seemed to think it was necessary for it to breath?

Not sure about the DF, but we remove them on the CCW bikes and have no issues. I think you ate good. Bike runs great, right?

This is a good example of how "brain washed" the paid mechanics are, due to government regulations/restrictions, that will fine/penalize them if they remove this item.

Planting a tree will do more for the air than adding air to the exhaust. (less popping too) LOL !

Most of us have removed the US EPA stuff. The DR runs better without it. We still keep equipment in case we are required to be tested. Take the open holes & move your ignition switch down (cleaner look).

Why is a mechanic looking at it?

O.K. guys, here I ask again. Has anyone changed the pads on the brakes yet?? I have been searching for some pads, and have not had any luck.I have found a few that look close to what is on the bike on ebay, but the pictures aren't that great to compare size to.I need to find pads soon,I have 5200 miles on my ride, and the brakes need a new set. please let me know if you have any input on this. Thanks.here are the pads from the front, I think the back is the same..

I think we originally did this to allow the engine to run cooler. Injecting air into the exhaust created a second burn. Has nothing to do with performance.

I'm still wanting to check. I don't need pads yet. Was going to take the front off mine this weekend. Are yours 40mm between bolt holes?
