Seen about 6800 RPM but didn't want to over rev the engine since Roadkill who suggest this CDI said that it did not have a rev limiter.
Not adjustable.
I'll try the coil and new wire after I run the DF with the new CDI for a while. Trying to change one thing at a time. I'm carrying the old CDI in the saddle bag just in case of problems with new one. Also I'm going to swap the old one back in to see verify difference.Vince

i see, my cheap Chinese analog tach tells me i hit 7 all the time, even over that down a hill once or twice..
i think ill need an accurate tach to compare, let us know on the verification...
So apparently there are restricted and unrestricted cdi, the restricted having a rev limiter... you may easily see such a difference if going from restricted to not...
I never got the hint that my engine was limited by anything than the lack of power within the range we could hit... but ya never know..
So i while im not quite as excited about this as i was, and have a bit of restored faith in what i knew about spark and explosions being what they are unless timing is altered, i do think its worth investigating indeed
I took the 10+CR for a short ride down the street, boy i want to say im feeling the increased power, but i wont until i can verify it as well... dont want to be a GARDO.
right now im too nervous to take it to the open road with so little time on a new engine...
speaking of which, haven't heard from dan in a while, wonder if he hit 88mph and got blasted back to 1985...Last edited by axa; 08-19-2014 at 02:55 AM.

I emailed Chad at http://www.extremescooters.biz/ who I bought two DF250RTBs from and asked about the availability of the new model of the DF250RTR which now has the overhead cam engine.

Pretty much our bike but with a soft tail. I think these bikes would sell in number at $2500 retail. Dong Fang claims it is EPA/DOT. http://nbchariot.com/product_show.asp?id=702
Unfortunately he can't get them but then asked about ordering another DF250RTB-A but he says that they are all sold out of the 2012 DF250RTBs. The importer is getting a new shipment from China in a few weeks so then I asked if they would have the OHC engine. Dong Fang seems to be putting that engine in their bikes now. Chad didn't know if the OHC engine would be used but said he will let me know.
I've been trying to get an OHC (CB250?) EPA engine shipped from China but no luck so far.Vince

Barnone,I have seen those bikes online and couldn't find a reseller for them.My oldest son has finally started getting his life in order. He finally got his driver license. So now I am considering helping him get a beginner bike.Either of those will work.I hope they continue to produce the hard tail version. If I find one close and cheap enough,I may consider chopping one to fit a 650 single or one of my GS500 engines.

Get a DF250RTB (hard tail) and do an engine swap. We been talking about doing it but no action so far.
Sure looks like this guy put a HD big twin in a DF250RTB-B.

Consider the feasibility.
Buy a 2500$ bike, to ditch the engine and put in a $$$ engine?
if a 650 single is what you want, then buy it and hardtail that...
been down this road
http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...ll=1#post69634
i bought a 2002 LS650 with 6500 miles in nice condition for 500$ , that is engine and frame...
there are hardtail kits, < 300$, you now have a complete bike for a fraction of the price...
either way you will need to know how to weld... so i cant see the the justification...

Best advise I've seen yet ! If you want to ride. If you like working on "projects", fine, buy a china bike.
In the long run , a used motorcycle would be a better investment. Re: parts, durability, etc.
