Very basic troubleshooting. When the engine stops running as soon as possibel just open the drain screw on the float bowl.

If gas runs out of the drain hose on the float bowl then you are getting gas to the carburetor float bowl and don't have a problem with the tank vent, filter in the tank, petcock, float valve, etc.

If gas does not run out of the hose then you are not getting gas to the carburetor float bowl and then you probably have a problem with the items above.

Report back your findings and we will go from there.

You never did answer my question about why you think the engine is running hot.

    Wrapper and pallet looked good.

Box show shipping wear, may from China?

    IMG_20111220_122206.jpg

Some fork lift driver missed the pallet, LOL. Caused the bike to shift.

    IMG_20111220_122212.jpg

Shipping frame pushed into left turn signal/running lamp. Didn't make a mark.

    IMG_20111220_122707.jpg

Rear shipping frame pushed into seat.

All in all, I don't see any problems yet.

man you are on point! Tomorrow I will run the bike till the problem comes up and try everything you and the others have told me. Also sorry about that, I did not know if you were asking what I thought the cause of the hotness was or if it just seemed to hot to me. Ill answer both now, to me it gets really really hot after riding for just like 5 minutes through all gears shifting 3000-4000rpm, I dont know the actual temperature but it seems hot enough and when I look at cables and wires that are not even touching anything metal, I can see that the plastic has worn off due to the heat. The cause I think is just that it is a badly designed engine with bad gearing, or I should say not the right gearing for what I am doing but all I am doing is just trying to drive it normally everyday on public roads not highways, its air cooled and a mechanic I talked to told me that its most likely a valve adjustment I would need, same thing the guys at scooterdepot told me, and they said if the engine gets too hot this is what happens to the valves and this is what has been casuing the problems to my bike.

    mattbujor,
You have two threads going on your problem. Why not keep the discussion in one thread ? How about just using the one at http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...e-carb-problem so you keep it out of this one on the the DF bobber?

as long as we are talking valves, did anyone else have the problem after adjusting valves to specs. they sounded good until warmed up then they rattled like crazy. i would think they would quiet up more when warm. after trying everything i could come up with. I set them both at zero. I even tried zero on intake and 2 on ex. still major rattle.
