How would this bike (and engine) compare to the:
    1. Honda Rebel
    2. Suzuki GZ250
    3. Suzuki TU250X
    4. V Star 250
(Is there another one I should consider?)
Would it keep up with these? Get similar (~80MPG) mpg? Are they similar engines? Thanks.

A buddy of mine has a 250 rebel and takes it on 87 the NY Thru Way. I've ridden it and it has shocks. Nice ride and smooth. Bike felt smaller than my Heist but its also a ptwin and will give you a bit more power.
You can get a slightly used Rebel on craigs list for about $1200 - $2500

cant say much to the other bikes because i dont know anyone that has one, but Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha make pretty damn good bikes

    Other,
There are so many vehicle choices that can do a 30 mile commute. You need to decide.
I'd buy an econo box for year round use and a bobber for a toy.

Chad who I bought my Dong Fang from at
    http://www.extremescooters.biz/250cc...r-chopper.aspx
sent me a new replacement tank for my bike since it had a slight leak. I repaired the leak but didn't know if the weld would hold so I asked for a tank under warranty and it arrived today.
Nice to be able to report a positive experience on an internet seller. I recommend him as a supplier of the bobber if you want one in the crate.

I saw the blue collar bobber kits. They seem a little expensive. ($269 for the fender kit) But, its all bolt on and I like some of the patterns on their fenders.

I might look into a used 450 or 600 too that I could bob. Although, the biggest selling point on these little bikes for me is the mpg.
On the other hand we are getting away from the point of this thread. We can bring it with this. All of the forums about honda rebel bobbers have advertisements for the dong fang df250rtb.
I also like that the dong fang is bigger then these other bikes.

Nice stuff at Blue Collar. If I was going that route I would start with a 600 or greater bike like Other suggested. You could dump a lot of money in a Rebel and still have a 250cc bike. The advantage of the DF or Heist is it is about done for a relative low price. My DF was $2199.99 delivered. These bikes are so simple that I don't see a lot of reliability issues assuming the owner doesn't butcher the bike.

    +1 on that =)

If you are going to start to sink $ into a bike you might as well get something bigger if you need the extra power, even a 1000cc bike gets 60+ MPH
If you want a killer looking bike without putting much $ into at all the DF is good choice although I would get the rims/spokes powder coated the second you receive the bike and also swap out the air filter for a foam one with no chrome on it, also paint over the VIN# as well because all of these things rust VERY fast. I will go take some pics of the DF rusting into the ground for you guys when I walk the dog in a bit.

Did you mean 60+ MPG? If so which bikes do? The Harley 883 list 60 MPG, but others I looked into didn't list MPG that high.

I want to see the rust. My area is pretty wet.

By the way Aboshi,I used to live near you before I bought 6 acres out in the country near Buffalo. Everything rusts there. I was right on the water too.
