Yeah I was going to put the same size on the front and rear when I change them so I know the rear will be smaller.

    BTW Thanks for the welcome!

JTC/ZugZug, did you ever end up picking up any knobbies for your 17" rims?

I describe what I did when I changed tires. I have put about 500km on them so far and they work real well. Most of that is on gravel roads. Some on pavement. I went with the IRC because I could get a 3.50 in a 17". Fits well on the wider front rim. I don't see a need for a larger than 4.60 on the rear for this small a bike.

What was the main reason you chose the IRC GP1's over the Shinko 244's you were looking at? Do you think I'd be good if I purchased the Shinko's, 5.10 for the Rear, 4.6 for the front. Shinko's are said to run 1-2 sizes smaller. I'd rather have the IRC's but it's more money for what appears to be a comparable tire in tread and quality.

It was just tire size. I didn't want a 4.60 on the front. I think the Shinko's would be just fine. Just watch for tire clearance on the forks to make sure a large tire doesn't rub. As for a 5.10 on the rear, again just be aware of clearance on the swing arm.

Nothing special. I think I put the original tube in the front and I had a Kenda tube lying around that I put in the back. I believe the Kenda tube was a little bit heavier than the stock.

Andrew... I found myself in some loose dry sand (think Sahara-like) the other day... talk about a squirrely ride w/ the stock smooth street tires. Probably will stay out of the dry sand in the future! C

I have to dispute that claim about Shinko tire's running smaller in size.I am running them on my GS5 and they are spot on,or maybe a few MM wider than most.A friend of mine and I have noticed that some of the Shinko tires are reproductions of popular older out of production tires. My Shinko tires on my GS5 are repops of an older out of production Michelin Pilot. My friend helped me install the Shinko tires. He pulled out two Michelins that were identical and same sizes as my Shinko tires.Maybe Shinko has been buying tire molds from companies that are no longer using them.
