You and your wife have done more "adventure" on that TZM than 99% of BMW GS and KTM owners.
Epic.

You have quite a trip planned and have already had some serious adventures in China. Pictures are also good! Where are some of them?
Also, it's not true that you won't be able to get parts for a Chinese moto in Eastern and Western Europe. I suggest looking harder...they are out there.

I've done two-up (two person) travel with my wife and I on two different QingQi200GY's with no problems...even at 4000m/asl. Total is two people, loaded tank bag and rear case. I think it should fit your purposes nicely and is extremely economical. Can be bought in China for about 9000RMB +/- 500RMB.
Because it is basically a Suzuki DR200 the bike is very reliable and parts are available all over Eastern and Western Europe. There are also a host of other good 200cc bikes out now but I know the QingQi is one of the best.
When you taking your trip?

P.S. Your pictures are very good! I would love to know more about where some were taken, how you got there and some other experiences you had along the way.---------------------------------------------------

06-12-2008, 05:26 AMwe want to start in the beginning of july to catch the solar eclipse in xinjiang on 1. August so we are a bit in a hurry to get a bike.
didnt you said in one of your trips the bike had almost no power anymore over 4000m? anyway this trip will not get us so high up.
your right about the economic of chinese bikes, they use very little gas. thats an big advantage. my TZM took most of the time over 5l/100km. too much spedding. whats the max speed of your 200gy with 2 ppl up?
what you think of the QM200GY-B(ASD)? did u test ride it? i think this kind of tires are much better for our purpose because most its anyway road or gravel and not real off road. you know the price of this model?

I have ridden a few bikes up past 4000m. The 150's I had before would loose tremendous amounts of power and only scoot you along at 20-30km/h at that altitude - one person with luggage.
At 4000m the 200GY pulls faster than 40km/hr with two people with luggage up switchback on broken roads. If you stay to the low-lands power will not be a problem to move you and your wife along at 80-90km/h comfortably on flat ground.
I have ridden the ASD but not for extended periods of time. The smaller wheels provides different handling characteristics but most everything else is the exact same...including top speed.
The ASD's are a little more expensive at around 11,000RMB. The dual-sport versions are a good deal for around 9,000.

05-27-2011, 09:03 PMall i would liek to know is hwo did u keep getting enough oil
i love 2 strokes but they ``consume`` oil its not like 4 strokes when u add oil in ur good for say 2500km before a change, 2 strokes consume oil. so did u take tones of bottles or were lucky to always find 2 strokes oils in any little shops.

05-28-2011, 04:16 AMDear Sean,
Welcome to the forum! Another Shanghai member!
Nothing wrong with bumping a three-year-old thread, and I hope you get some guidance on how to keep your 2-stroke humming.
But how about introducing yourself, posting some pix of that TZM and telling us a bit about how you racked up 23k km on the thing. Surely you didn't ride 23,000 clicks without leaving Shanghai.
cheers!jkp
