The Birth of China Motorcycles: The Jialing CJ50 (嘉陵)
April 20, 1979, Institute for Jialing motorcycles began to build the CJ50 culminating with the first Jialing civilian motorcycle assembly on September 15th. After more than 200 kilometers of testing, the first Jialing Motorcycle CJ50 entered Zhongnanhai in Beijing, followed by 5 Jialing riders circling in Tiananmen Square. This success led to the production of 55 motorcycles, which were bought by Beijing residents. It can be said, the CJ50 civilian motorcycle's pedigree led China from the bicycle into the "Motorcycle Kingdom Era", leading the way for the development of China's vast motorcycles manufacturing base.
The colors available for the CJ60 were red and black (sorry, no blue bikes yet). This Jialing design and technology were based off of the Honda PA50 models, and is quite similar to today's electric bike.

I was the shit having one of those, all my friends had Vespa’s,
which were considered MOPEDS and had pedals and restrictions that kept them at a top speed of 20mph. The Honda was actually considered a motorcycle its top speed was 30mph.
At the time they required no license, the mopeds that is, the Honda actually required a license, which I did not have.
We went everywhere on those little two-strokes.
