I would just buy the whole assembly from Taobao, should come with everything you need to do a swap. The inverted ones do handle very nicely on the road with a 17" tire.

    Cheers!

Inverted shocks are sweet. I will have to look into changing out some stuff when I get back to Shanghai. Very exciting.

That was an incredibly detailed report on the rear hub as well. Cool.

A noob question I know but I want to do some performance modifications to My 200 gy. Step by step with a distance dream of swapping to the 250 engine (if possible) but first the brakes. I think I understand from this thread that the disc brake and drum brake wheels are different? Is that right? can I just buy the disc brakes from the B(asd) version and pop them on somehow or do I need the wheel also?

Google some images of motorcycle drum brake hub and disk brake hub and you'll see they are different beasts altogether.

I'm thinking, frankly, since we're old mates now, that rather than trying to turn your 200 into something it ain't with engine and brake upgrades etc, instead start thinking about your next bike -- and about how great Liza would look piloting the 200 herself!!

    Cheers!

yea, that's being discussed. so far we've gotten as far as controlloing rpms but she was afraid to release the clutch so I think that her driving a bike might or might not happen. Me crashing and dropping the bike and our fellow motorists are not very confidence inspiring either so we will see.

I know your point about getting a new bike but his one was a pain in the arse to get and I paid too much for it. Next time will be the same shit. Then I assume you cant get it registered. (both the 200 and 150 are not registerable in shanghai, waiting for a workaround now) so i figured why not just upgrade to the 250 step by step. From what I understand from reading around they are actually not so different and I can just upgrade and adjust bit by bit.

I think the 200 is definitely not intended as a pillion ride.

As for whether the female of the species can adapt to solo piloting, I'd point your pillion to the following threads:

Around China in 100 days... aka "Lulu learns from scratch, and learns to wear the pants..."

Actually, this thread has two forks, the second is found here.

Yes, this is the Lulu who is here visiting Shanghai this week, though she's leaving on the 31st. Hope Liza can join us if we can manage to organize a gathering. Cindy, who you met yesterday, really wants to meet other women riders.

That's Lulu and Jeremy making a cameo in Pat's brilliant Beijing to Kunming thread.

Then there's this amazing and inspiring and beautiful thread by Meow Ze Dong...

And this one from another awesome newbette named Ting Ting, which has a link to her more detailed thread in the Chinese forum called www.Moto8.cn.

I think all of these predate your joining MCM in May, so you and Liza may have missed them. If these posts don't inspire, I don't know what will. These are some of the toughest and capable and durable and talented motorcyclists I know!

    Is MCM amazing or what?

    cheers!

Yes we did stray a bit there. But any chance to merge discussion of motorcycling and women is catnip for me. What was the question? Engine upgrade? I know this lovely machinist up in Putuo...

    Cheers!
