I have met a couple of folk experienced in travelling around that way in yachts doing bits and pieces of business, and they say it is dangerous, sort of like being down-town back alleys all day and all night. You have to look the part, know the moves and be ready to fight or run like f**k. The 'authorities' are the most corrupt, mor ethan the populaces and most of the islands you cannot easily get across on wheels. There are no 'ferries' as such unless you are a people smuggler. You can hire boats and some areas are almost normal and safe but all in all, once you are a few miles away from Australian influence, it is sharks above and below the water and on land. Most people fly from place to place, its like a local bus service.

Having said all that, my mates often tend to wind people up and exaggerate, they enjoy that BS but would give me the real gen if I decided to make that trip either direction or was looking into it for you Jeff. As usual I am sure there are ways and routes that are safe enough to risk, as in many parts of the world. Will take in depth research. Plenty of expats and a few on bikes in PNG and many places gradually getting tarmac. White guys seen as food still, if not literally, certainly for all their possessions - so I do want that H&K though. Or even an AK74. The Uzi tends to jam.

if you look carefully, it is clustered and could be avoided. And you are right, overland is the go and would be an epic trip.

The Saga company who do the Saga 250 in Canada are thinking of importing the Megelli 250R so they may know of any Motard version, seem pretty clued in, and I also saw somewhere that the Megelli motard was in USA as a Qlink. So those guys in SD might know more. I decided to be sensible and stop looking at all the different bikes and stick to the Kinlon for now, especially as the exhaust just fell of the car - again. Back to hunting down a decent Suzuki Jimney and put the Kinlon and a tent on a trailer. I wish it was overland to China from Aus., I might just have to buy a boat too. And a HK for the pirates.
The Megelli only seem to be available in sport. Qlink were supposed to carry them, but the head guy of Qlink jumped ship and formed his own company, Bennche, which then became the official importer for Megelli, and left Qlink without them.

Exhaust can be hung back on with string and chewing gum--I see plenty of cars from Mexico around here running (nearly) sans muffler.

I can send you an AK, if you wish

Rather have an AK so when Jape finishes his swashbuckling takedown and empties his magazinez, he can always pick up more from dead pirates.

    YAAAAAR indeed!

Well having done combat reenactment and live steel fighting - I think a 30" inch curved wide swept saber for close combat with a 40 mm Glock 22 backup. perfect for any high sea adventure

I have said it before but you need this in China:

Comes retaliation ready and self pre-emptive!
