sorry for late reply but i was having a wee holiday ;)

In terms of reliability engine is the most important for me. Bodywork can fix easier and always can find parts somewhere....(experience)
I will look into getting a Japanese engine somewhere but the problem is that i cant speak Chinese and for every little question or info i gotta ask my friends for help...... I cant push them to much, heh

as for Yamaha being more popular than Honda - ive found more info about the guy from humanbeings youtube link... he said that he couldnt find parts in Colombia or Venezuela and there was plenty of YBR parts............

what do you think about the Suzuki 125 bikes?
like HJ125K or GSX125.....are they any good? i have 1000 Suzuki dealers in my city and those bikes are cheaper than Yamahas or Hondas

Almost every mechanic can easily repair these Suzuki on ur route

BUT this classical model "GN125" http://www.haojue.com/products/produ...02|156|169|210 can easily find parts that don't related to "power" (tank/ decal / ... )

This sounds like an EPIC journey, I would love to be able to also so something like this. Very inspiring. Keep us posted to your progress and document everything from buying the bike to a few test rides and so forth

still plenty of time left... im planning to go at some point next year cos need to save up some money first. am having loads of problems with getting chinese drivers license at the moment.
Those Suzi bike look quite good, will have to think about them. have time before cos im not getting a bike before the license

What's the problem getting a chinese license? Should be straightforward if you have a valid residence permit, even if you don't have a foreign driver's license. Unless your local motor vehicle bureau has never dealt with a foreigner before, which is possible....

Im on business visa but that is not the problem. Problem is that my visa will expire in less than 3 months and they say that to get a license i have to have visa valid for more than 3 months, which means i need to wait until i get new one......

It's a typical bind. The biz visa can be for 6 months or a year, but each stay is limited to 3 months, which rules out the license. can you get your employer to put you on a residence permit? it's not difficult to do at all. Then you'll have one-year multiple entry visa rights, and the right to get the license.

after a bit of digging, it seems that i can get a HK licence since i'm on a HK working holiday visa.
then with that i'll apply for a Guangdong licence without the crazy exam.

not sure if its valid all over China though.
