07-11-2012, 11:14 PMI think the chain is ridiculously tight but hmmm... I was told they changed the oil at Rides. Might give them a call tomorrow to make sure. I'm new at having a motorcycle and was hoping I wouldn't have to touch the valves so soon :0 Still have to pick up the measuring strip thingies :)

07-12-2012, 07:34 PMSpoke with Tom at Weaver today and he did say with new chains - he sends them out 'tight' so that's a relief. I don't think I would have left it so. Tom was totally cool and beyond friendly. Also the paperwork and keys arrived today! So tomorrow is title & reg day. I'm very excited and can't believe I have one! Seems surreal.

07-15-2012, 10:31 AMGood morning! Boy, I love how she looks but I gotta say I have a heap of fear as this is my first clutch, heavy bike experience. The first day I rode I thought- what have I done- felt like crawling back to an automatic. But everything I've read online says the fear leaves with practice practice practice and also that a lot of noobs dump their bikes in the beginning :0 (I haven't but afraid to) Fortunately where I live the street is closed off so the perfect place for training. I did take MSF course but at the time it was on a scooter- I had a 150cc... right now I'm trying ti find a decent pair of riding boots... anyways, Best Xeta :)

07-15-2012, 10:42 AMAll the Gear All the Time = ATGATT. As for those boots, don't forget to check out Craigslist. Start in the motorcycles section, then type boots. Lots of guys who got motorcycles on a lark end up selling them and all their gear, and you can find excellent deals if you are patient and lucky. My favorite, go-to boots now are a calf-high, waterproof, armored model from BMW, and I got them for $80 from a guy who decided to stop riding.
Try this link for boots in South Florida/Miami. Some decent choices, depending on size and style.

Xeta,
You'll get it man. In a few weeks it will all be a no-brainer. The MSF here teaches the clutch to first timers like this:
First get used to the "friction zone"
Sitting with the bike in gear let the clutch out slowly until you feel it grab. Now, pull it back in. Do this over and over getting comfortable with the grab point of the clutch.
Now move on to "walking" with the bike as you let the clutch out a little more. Don't let the clutch all the way out, just out to the friction zone and take a few steps with it before pulling clutch back in.
Finally, move on to letting it all the way out and take three big steps as you do then lightly give it gas and pick up your feet.
I saw a few first time riders do this over a morning, they were riding by the afternoon lessons.
