    Hi there,
I am looking for some recommendations on bike gear shops here in BJ. Got myself a motorbike first, so now I need helmet, jacket, trousers, gloves and so on.
Riding with borrowed gear in the moment....

Thank you! Forum search,of course. Guess I have been to excited to open my first thread.
Have been to one shop in the Russian market, nice jackets but no boots, gloves or trousers in my size. The lady said she'll close shop in two months. So she is only selling the stock she has.
Any more info about the small shops between the NE 4th and 5th ring road? The other thread is two years old. A lot of buildings have been chai'd in that area.

Welcome to the forum, Rumpel. Have to assume the erstwhile owner of your Galaxy was one Lao Jia Huo. He's an authority on shops in Beijing, and recently has been guiding other newbs in this regard. Some of the Beijing shops are hard to find, but LJH posted very accurate coordinates only in the past month or two, so you should be able to follow his trail of bread crumbs....

Do show us some porn of your new steed!

    Good luck.

    Hi Rumple

There isn't really any "MC gear street" in Beijing, which is unfortunate. You've got to travel from pillar to post to shop. But here's a quick rundown of some of the places I have found in/around Beijing:

    Around NE 4th & 5th Ring Road

    1) Mr Yu's Shop (on Yaojiayuan Road) - great selection of clothing for cruising, racing & dirt biking, and pretty good prices. He's a biker, first and foremost, but now also runs a clothing outlet. My personal fave. Franki turned me on to this guy during one of his Beijing visits.

    2) FHL (on a little alleyway, near Harley dealer) - very good selection of gear, and all genuine ($$$$). Tremendous customer support, in my experience (replaced a pair of faulty sunglasses, no questions asked, after a few months of wearing them). If you ask the Chinese biker community, most will recommend FHL for quality gear.

    3) Harley dealer - great selection of Harley clothing & accessories ($$$$$$$$). Fancy store.

    4) BMW dealer - odd location & difficult to find the first time. Very good selection of BMW riding gear, but bring many shopping bags full of cash (same as Harley dealer). You get what you pay for. I just go there to window shop, dream and drool.

    5) Chrome Horse - right next door to the BMW dealership, a Harley place with a good selection of Harley clothing upstairs (expensive) - it has a sales rack on the first floor with very good prices.

    6) Jame's Harley Shop - Lido area, just inside 4th ring road on a little alleyway. Like Chrome Horse, carries a lot of Harley stuff. James speaks some English but, in my experience, he isn't great on customer service. I went once on a scooter and he looked down his nose at me! No prob - I took my dough elsewhere. I've never priced out his gear, so I don't know about his prices.

    7) BMW Motorrad shop - Chinabiker turned us on to this guy's shop - great gear, BMW prices, but really tough to find inside the 798 Art District. This is a shop for the 1200GS crowd with money to burn.

    Pinggu (much further afield)

A suburb of Beijing, about 30 kms out past Terminal 3 - this is where several wholesale outlets are. Great prices (non-negotiable), but not really set up for retail. Only worth the trip if you're buying a lot of stuff.

    SE 4th/5th Ring Road

    1) Qili Motors - one of Beijing's largest MC dealers. Not much gear, but what it does carry is very reasonably priced. Tends to be lower end Chinese gear, with the odd goodie on the rack. I saw an XL upper body Dianese mesh protector (knock-off) for 200 rmb (I paid 800 for the genuine one at FLH)

    SW 4th/5th Ring Road

    1) FCY MC shop - is run by a well known Chinese circuit racer who heads up a huge Chinese MC club, so he has plenty of racing suits, and a small assortment of other stuff. His club's website is www.fcyclub.com and his telephone number is 13801117567. Chinese prices (low) but unlikely anything is genuine (except his racing suits). Tough to find the first time, and kinda dumpy store, but very knowledgeable vendor.

I can email you (or anyone else) google maps of any of the above if you PM me your email address.

    Cheers
    Richard

Ok, update: This weekend I had a look at Mr. Yu's shop and FHL. There is nothing I can add to Richard's descriptions of the shops, he really nailed it.
So I bought myself a black Joe Rocket jacket @RMB450 and some Alpinestars gloves @RMB50 at Mr Yu's. My wife brought me a colourful helmet from Singapore as a gift and it fits really nicely. So I am still looking for one of these jeans which are lined with ?Kevlar? and sewed in knee protectors. Have seen great black pants at Mr Yu's but I don't want to ride around like the black knight. For boots I planning to bring my old paratrooper boots from home. So I am slowly getting there.
Richard: Thanks again for the great map and description you sent me.

I haven't heard of cheaper chinese knock-offs of kevlar, will be interested if you find any - but for choice and fit and quality http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/
Properly lined not just sewn in patches of kevlar like 'draggin' and some others I have seen. Worth the money if you don't want leathers (which are still far and away the best).
I got my gear here on Ebay, both leather pants and kevlar cargos - good quality, cheaper than most.
