Yes, you heard me right. It's Slabo's birthday. It's a biggish one too. I won't tell you exactly how big. Big enough to feel wistful about an earlier time, but not so big as to pitch you into outright depression.

Naim, treat yourself to a fresh set of tires, or an oil change, or maybe even that new engine you've been thinking about!

And have a very happy birthday!

    cheers

The best bit, is presents to yourself! No one else knows quite what you want or how much you really want it - so get it! Happy birthday.

Thanks for the reminder guys. Here, I really forgot about this. The number is 30, Euphonius nailed it in the first post. Incredible memory you've got sir. #30? hmm, well not much has changed really.

Sadly, ever since I broke that girl's arm, the bike is getting little action. Sits in the corner of the apartment, maybe I use it once a week for a 2 km ride.. The accident didn't put me off, but because of the 40k rmb price tag, I can't afford time off for a long trip, or shelling out for some needed gear. Mountains, tough roads, and rough rides are bliss for me. It's painful, but healing in a twisted way. I need to do this or some other similar sort of self torture to keep sane. But it doesn't mean much for my girlfriend. A half day ride and camp, she'll enjoy. But when it's starts getting painful, well, she prefers to stay home 'n watch crappy TV. We're broke, and it's because of the accident. So really I can't be selfish and take off into the sunset now.

But now my visa requires me to exit the country every 30 days. And I'm in Kunming, so the plan is to ride to the Lao border and back. Should be a nice ride, and a mech armor jacket and pants should be enough. I can afford that much of a splurge. In about 3 weeks, I have to do such a trip. Either to the Laos border, or Myanmar. Guess I'll do both this year. Any thoughts about this? I'd like to stay away from hotels and camp as much as possible. I'll look into prepping the bike to be as reliable as possible. New chain, tires, chain guide are all I can think of for now.

But rides to the north I will need more gear, I won't do what I did last year on the trip to Chengdu, my clothes were useless, I might as well go naked, would attract more attention.. be seen, be safe. I was wet and cold all the time. Later, when I recover financially, I want to go west and then up to deqin, north yunnan, then come down through sichuan. That would probably mean getting a different bike or a serious overhaul for the old GY.
