I think this bike is kind of cool, it’s a blatant copy of the Lifan GY-5 which other Chinese manufacturers make versions of, they I would say copy whatever is popular.
    Lifan Gy-5

I am not even sure the Chinese consider it copying, they may actually buy parts from each other? One may make the frame or in this case the fuel tank which is the part that makes it look just like the Lifan model.

The results is actually a better looking version, sort of an improvement on the original.

There is Dong Fang, and also Dong Feng...

I can no longer withstand all of this. Dear Chinese friends, give a numerical names to the plants: Factory 231, Factory 16, etc. ;)
Ask me nothing - I DO NOT speak english. Really...

It's not difficult to see who they are...

I like a schematic and a parts list with manufacturers numbers on those.

I also like a service manual beyond that of the owners manual.

Ideally I'd like to be able to enter the models VIN number online and have all of it....

I personally do not think any motorcycle should be sold online unless that exists.

I would like to see inventories online for online sales, If I choose a motorcycle then in the shopping cart I should see the VIN of the model I am purchasing. Then it would be legitimate and in that all the information seen, who manufactured it and in what plant and on what date, then also the EPA/DOT certificate and also the file for decoding the VIN would be linked to it.

Then also who imported it and is distributing it and were it is held and all the details about them, address business licenses etc.

I do not need dealers and sales people, but occasionally I am my own mechanic and other times I am not, either way we all need access to documentations to do the job or task at hand correctly. We need diagrams and details and parts lists that allow access to purchase them.

There were a couple of knock-offs of the Lifan GY-5 out there. Jetmoto had an enduro which looked like the GY-5 about 4 years ago, and Motobravo had a near identical bike to the GY-5. If you look on the Chinese business-to-business sites for Hi-Bird they have (or had) a bike identical to the GY-5. Shineray has a GY-5 looking bike on their site, too. I do think they either buy parts from each other, or supply each other. That might be where the "non-American Lifan" GY-5 Lifan bikes came from a few years ago causing all kinds of trouble for a few importers.

If it makes it easier to digest all of this, American Lifan are supposed to offer a GY-5 with updated bodywork according to their site, but in the meantime will sell the old GY-5.

Dongfang is incorporated in the state of California as of 2009. The address is the same used by Sunny Motors in Chino California.
