my bike only has a adjustment scale on one side of the swing arm, after adjusting many time and comming up with to tight in some parts of the chain and to loose in others by just turning the wheel i took it to the shop. I got the bike back with bent guides gouges in the swing arm and after I rode for a week the wheel seemed loose, I found the shop tighten the nut so tight they striped it and needed a new axle . but still my back tire is waring fast and seems alot hotter than the front I use a ruler to measure the two sides of the swing arm because of the one scale is missing on one side

The drum brake will transfer more heat, do you use the rear brake? I ask because some say they do not and they really should use both and if the brake is binding it will transfer heat, check the service manual to see how much play the rear brake should have, if the play is not correct loosen the rear brake till it is correct.

The service manual also covers chain adjustment and you should have guides on both sides. Wonder why one is missing?

    Do your sprocket show wear?

I always measure from the center of the swing arm pivot point, to the center of the rear axle bolt.If the chain is tight in places and loose in others, the chain is bad. Most likely the chain has stretched unevenly.
