    MJH,
That formula is for trap speed in the quarter mile not top speed.

Indeed. I believe that my YBR 250 has exactly the same thing.

Now this is just making me feel deeply inferior, since the EFI-equipped JH600 has only one throttle cable.

    Oh, the shame!

    (Velocity/234)cubed=HP/Weight

I plugged in the weight of the bikes plus my weight as a rider and then set in random speeds until I matched the hp to what each bike is rated at.

Its an estimate and that’s for a variety of reasons one is that the engines hp at the crank is not equal to what is applied in hp at the wheel (braking hp) Then there is a matter of gearing and other variables, but basically the additional hp of the GW offsets its additional weight slightly over the YBR. Based on the weight and crank hp….only.

Its not a Top speed, its an estimated speed attainable in a ¼ mile, based on the engine hp and load.

The plate has clear stated the kerb weight is 174kg.
MJH, can you tell if the engine has DOHC or SOHC from those pictures, as I'm not sure now.
Not really, but it may be a DOHC with the output and thats only would be based on it not being a multi-valve engine. Something is offering the higher ratings. Either way that bike is decent, it is coming off very balanced. The higher the technology the higher the price.

Lots of debate about the value of the push cable - it is common for people to disconnect and discard it, add (or strengthen) the return spring, and adjust the pull cable.

This GW looks good, as does that KTM 125 (pretty unlikely we'll see the KTM in China in the near future).

What is interesting is that if you go to the KTM global site, they do not have INDIA listed in it's ASIAN market, only Japan.

BAJAJ has the exclusive rights to distribute the KTM in INDIA, they may also have that for Kawasaki and also for Vespa, the later is not so obvious.

Its coming off as a smart company and in that it is building relationships.

China is in flux, its motorcycle industry is in total flux with the new regulations. It is possible that they may change their position and allow more entrants into the market, it would be ideal to allow distribution of foreign manufactured products if those partners have direct investment with a domestic manufacturer with the intention of building better distribution systems. Allowing certain products into the market with associated investments in research and development of an associated partners domestic lines. As well as shared distribution channels.

Allowing better access to markets is a two way street. The Chinese market is huge but not well developed. If they open the markets they will attract more partners and in that real competition at all levels in the markets. If those partners have global distribution networks already in place, then they can share those and in that entrance to other markets as well for their associated Chinese partner.
