#1 Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)08-17-2011, 03:52 PM
Hello,
I am planning to ride this week end (August 19 to 21st) from Shanghai to Moganshan starting on Friday late afternoon (drive mainly at night without traffic, in that way we skip ugly landscape and crazy truck, I've done it 2 weeks ago) and come back on Sunday.
I am driving a YBR 250, not a monster but enough to go around. Goal is not speed at all but just pleasure of riding, enjoy landscape and find some nice new spot.
Cheers,
Nicolas

at this reason, riding at night keep away from intense daylight heat. But I encounter mainly trucks at night around my area (between towns).

08-18-2011, 01:50 AMHave to agree with the other 2 posts, night riding is something I avoid. I especially detest the rear lights mounted on the sides of trucks and aimed back. They are blinding bright and dangerous as f*ck, making it very difficult to see while overtaking. That being said, I wish you the best of luck and hope to see lots of pics on your ride report later. How is the YBR 250 serving you? I'm looking to pick one up myself come October.

08-18-2011, 02:45 AMDear Nicolas,
Nice first post and welcome to the forum. You sound like you know what you are doing, but please be especially carefully out there after dark. Between Shanghai and Huzhou you'll have streetlights for most of the stretch, which really helps for seeing hazards and keeping your eyes undilated enough that those insane rear-facing beams that Nuhaus mentioned don't totally blind you. But the hazards are definitely greater at night, so extra extra extra caution is required.
Hope you carry a camera and post for us all to enjoy! Some pix of your bike also most welcome!
cheersjkp

Hello,
Thanks for your comments and for the welcoming message. I do agree that night ride contains risks and required much more attention. To be honest with you, speed or rush is not what I am looking on Chinese road, saying that I found out less stressful to make it at night than day ride on that portion of road which we all know is "industrially" boring. As Euphonius mentionned, most of this trip is made over nice streetlights, and if motorbike is well equiped (HID light, powerful horns, ...) it's fine to go ahead. I also would like to add, that we don't necessary need to cover all the distance in one night, let's look at the situation and if it's too painful, there are plenty of hotels alongside the road.
I have been driving a YBR 125 previously and went last february from Shanghai-Huangshan-Jingdezhen-Shangrao-Lishui-Whenzhou-Shaoxing-Shanghai. All by myself and with temperatures around -5 to 8°C during 8 days...I just changed about a month ago for a YBR 250 (which is my daily transportation tools in Shanghai). So far I have been very satisfied with it, even if I would love to have a nice 600cc...
Anyway, invitation is still on for this week end, and I wish I will not depart alone again... hahaha
I have plenty of pictures of my previous trip, what is the best way to upload on the forum?
Thanks!

08-18-2011, 03:44 AMThanks, Nicolas. Lots of riders in this forum will envy you that YBR250! There's a very nice thread about how to post pix. Best is to post them to a hosting site, then just insert a link to the desired picture using the linking tool.
Like this, which is linked from my smugmug collection:
