I was just reading through Dewsnap's Regal Raptor 250 review, and I noticed a Youtube post that Moilani made. If you can view Youtube, it is worth a watch. If you can't, it is a video that shows that the top end motorcycle security chains are pretty much worthless against someone with bolt cutters. They run through half a dozen top end locks & chains in no time.
In a thread td_ref started, there were a few videos where thieves were caught on CCTV. Again, depressing.
I park my bikes beside the security guard station, under a CCTV, chain them together, and have alarms & GPS trackers. Of course, the CCTV may just record the disappearance. BUT, I always give gifts to the security people & parking lot cleaners. I think this latter strategy, for a nominal price, has helped keep my bikes where I leave them. Lots of eyes are on my bikes 24/7. Those eyes know who owns the bikes, and they may be willing to intervene if someone gets too close.

And that's why this aging cowboy's senile brain says "no" to disc brake locks - damn sure I'd do the same.

09-02-2011, 09:17 AMDear Lao Jia Huo,
Ouch, that hurts indeed. But there's a simple way to avoid it. Just be sure when you slip the disk lock in that you put it below the caliper assembly, not above, and as close as possible. That way the wheel can only rotate through just a few degrees of arc before impact.
And, yes, I learned this through experience.jkp
