#1 Need some help with my GF's scooter08-26-2011, 01:17 AM
It's model number JL50QT-21. She bought for $65 as a project from a friend. Well it has a new battery which is still good, had it checked and everything. Well I hooked the battery up and all the plugs are where they are supposed to go. Turned the key and got nothing, not even the brake light comes on like it is supposed to. It's my first 2-stroke scooter I have worked on, so I am a bit lost. We have no power with the battery hooked up and fully charged. The motor spins free with the kick start, so it's not locked up. But there is absolutely no power whatsoever once the key is turned. Unlike my scooter, you turn the key and the brake light comes on at least.
So I am lost and looking for any info that may help. I am going to pick up a new ignition switch, gas cap, and seat lock. I am hoping that will help. She needs a gas cap and side lock, so this is my main reason for getting it. If anyone has any idea what it might be, please let me know. I appreciate it.1975 CB550 - Gone but not forgotten

08-26-2011, 01:37 AMDear MrPh,
Does she (the bike, not the GF) look like this:
Google turns up a surprisingly rich range of hits on that model number even without the Geely brand name. Seems there's a good amount of support available for that scoot:
scootdawg forum link
Nice maintenance manual
An east coast dealer
And an online parts house
How about posting up some pix (scoot AND GF)!
cheersjkp

Yes that is the one. And I have been looking around through Google with no avail as to what would be causing this problem. And since I am registered here, I figured I would ask the age old question.

08-26-2011, 01:48 AMA bit hard to diagnose with so little information. Think you need to go through the entire electrical system and check all connections.
good luck!jkp

Yeah. It's hard to start. All I have for now is everything is plugged up where it is supposed to. Battery id fresh off the charger. I turn the key to on and there are no lights or anything. So I am suspecting it is either the ignition or rectifier looking thing.

It sounds like you have checked most of the system. Did you make sure you have a good ground. If the gound from the battery is bad nothing will work no matter how charged the battery or how good the fuse is. Good luck, Let us know.

The ground looks good. I might replace it just in case.
And I have been wondering something. This has to do with my scooter. When I first got it, the battery would hold a charge for 2 weeks, now it is holding it for longer and taking less time to charge then normal. I have a 1.5 charger, so it usually takes a few hours to charge, and as of the past month, it has only taken 45 minutes to charge. This is the stock battery that came with the scooter as well. And then if I put it in my garage for a week while it rains, I pull it out and it won't start unless it is sitting in the sun for about 20 minutes. Has anyone else had these problems?1975 CB550 - Gone but not forgotten

Small update, but the parts finally shipped a month after we bought it. So yeah, crazy but it's a huge waiting game. We are looking to sell it though since she is preggo now. Anyone interested? Lol.
