When are you coming up to Xinjiang next ?

    Hi Bigdamo,

Yes, that is why is spent the time posting this thread but personally I am not getting my hopes up. There are too many fundimental differences between the Japanese and the Chinese for me to draw equation.

I'd love to visit Xinjiang again but I have other goals too. So I need to sort out my priorities. 2012 major target is to ride down to S. America.

    Dear Franki,

I have news for you: It's a mystery to the Chinese manufacturers! I think they often have no marketing strategy, just the thought that, "Since I'm a motorcycle factory I should make motorcycles." It's like Field of Dreams: If I make it they will come. Er, not.

Riding down Latin America? Sounds like you have made yourself a bucket list!

    cheers!

    Hi Jeff,

    Mutual feelings there, mate.
My bucket list has long since exsist. I am checking it off list one by one since 5 years ago. Have just done a 24,000km trip accross N. America to check out the reliability of my KLR so I can be sure it will be able to take me down to Tierra del Fuego

Met a couple of our mutual friends in Cal KLR Tech Daze

    Cheers,

I guess this sort of bike is still light years ahead of Chinese local mainstream buyers. So Shineray couldn't justify all the red tape for bring the bike GuoIII compliant.

A little late to the thread for me, but we had a 400cc from Xingyue a few years back here in the US and Canada, as well as throughout the Americas. Seemed like a good alternative to the 200cc doldrums, but I think the pricing has been a little steep for an untested Chinese brand/bike for people to take the plunge. Shineray seems to offer some decent bikes, but again, if the price is too high, they will sell very few.

Mate and I called Shineray today and got given two telephone numbers for a couple of guys who handle the Chinese domestic market sales. We managed to speak with one of them, who advised that the XY400 (Shineray X5) will be manufactured and hit the market (domestic availability) sometime after the Chinese Spring Festival and should be able to get legal issued license plates in those cities that issue them for motorcycles. Asked a couple of technical questions which he couldn't answer, but sounds like it is intended be available soon.

Woooo! I like it! Looks much better than JH600

Spring festival sounds great! Do you think it will be more expensive then JH600? How many years to find out all the problems and release reliable version?

I was on the phone yesterday to shineray and the export department did not know if the bikes would be legal in China. They passed me over to a couple of guys in the china sales division .. A Mr Ben and A Mr Huang.. They were quite adamant that the bikes would be on the market after the spring festival and will be good for getting plates in China...

Its just a 400cc single and a copy of another so it should not cost too much to manufacture.

    1996-2004 Model

If they bring that bike to the USA they should offer it in three versions, off road, dual sport and a motard/adventure, because not everyone wants the same thing….
    2005 Motard versions

The XR400 shared body parts with the XR250, so them using the same body part on their X2 and X5 would be smart.

The results would be three versions of each and in that cover a wider range of tastes.
