In June, my daughter and I paid a visit to Galaxy Motorcycles, a subsidiary of Yinhe, one of the largest Chinese bikes manufacturers. Galaxy is based 20km south of GuangZhou the capital of the GuangDong province in South China.

Earlier this year, Galaxy launched 3 new models (Motard, Enduro, MX) available in 150 and 250cc. Their first public appearance was a successful participation to the Taklamakan rally in North West China this April.

This day trip was hot, rainy and intense. We enjoyed a nice show by the Galaxy test team. Unfortunately, we messed up many pics because of a bad tuning of our camera.

The factory is 80km from our home town so lets start with roads and Pearl River Delta landscapes.

Once arrived, we were welcomed by Zhou Xin, the manager in charge of the export business.

In June the production has not yet started so Zhou Xin showed us the warehouse where the pre production models are assembled.
It doesn't look like a high capacity line but Galaxy will use the Yinhe factories for full scale production.

A Motard 250cc in the crate.

A 150cc MX just assembled. Overall quality seems better than the average Chinese bike.

Now it's time to test the beast, here a motard 250cc.
First impression: These are small bikes compared to Japanese/European.
I'm on the heavy (fat!) side but only 176cm height and you can see that the bike looks tiny under me.
Enduro and Mx are little bit higher because they have 21/18 wheels instead of 16/16.
The saddle is short so not too much room for a passenger.

The bike is very responsive with lot of torque in low revs. Nice loud noise from the exhaust.

Now a little show by the test team.

For the last leg of this trip, we went to the MX track where Galaxy test their bikes.
Since weeks the region is flooded by torrential rains so the track was muddy and for most of it under 10cm of water.

This time the bike is a MX 150cc.

Daughter wanted to try the bike. It was a first for her!

    Back to the Pros

Yinhe builds also quads and karts.

Thank you to the Galaxy Team and Zhou Xin for this nice day.

Brice man that's great! Did you get a sense of how much/many units they produce a year and if they have any products going out for export?

Also, were you thinking about buying one?

    P.S.
How did your recent trip to Yunnan go?

No idea but Yinhe Group has 3 or 4 factories in the area so if they get some big order from abroad they would be able to deal with it.

I'm sticking with the XJR for now.

Beside the traffic restrictions in West Sichuan, the trip was good. Lugu Lake and North Yunnan deserved more time than we had.
