    Hi guys,

Ive been looking at getting some bar guards,
the wrap around ones that will offer good brake/ clutch lever protection,

Do any of you guys have a favorite brand or model or will any do?

Also, having never dealt with them before, where exactly do you measure them to fit?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

    James

Not much in the way of replies, but I guess there aren't many people who have done this mod?

Ive ordered these, and will post pictures and a brief description of fitting for future reference if anyone else asks the question.

Those look like Acerbis knockoffs and should do a good job of not only protecting your hands from brush and cold, but also protecting your levers in bike drops and getoffs. I can't imagine riding offroad without these.

Do let us know how they have a "made in China" label and how they work out for you!

    Cheers

Barkbusters are the bee's knees, the pride of Oz. They'll be great on the 'strada. I consulted with Matthew Philpott about having a set sent up here, but the price was more than I could bear. Close to US$200 by the time they'd have reached me.

The Acerbis knockoffs have been great so far. Lord knows I've dropped the bike quite a few times!

When do we get to see this new steed, TB? You going to join us for drinks tonight at Jackie's?

    cheers

right, so, ive fitted the guards.....

fairly straight forwards, though next time ill pay more attention to the diameter of the bar end plugs

here are some pics showing a couple of the steps along the way,

first the fixings included in the kit, the smaller plugs were a little on the small side but are holding well after i opened the centre out a little to give more adjustment,
and the larger plugs wouldnt fit in the end of the bar,

so, take a sharp blade and cut the rubber around the end of the grip, exposing the end of the throttle tube.

then grab yourself a saw and chop the end off the throttle tube, dont be shy now!

next, throw the inner mounting clamps onto the bar, the guard is loosely attached already to give an idea of where you need to mount the clamp.

then loosely bolt the end plug to the guard and insert it into the bar, the picture shows it tightened already.

then tidy any loose ends and tighten the bolts up, checking for clearance around the brake and clutch levers, adjust as necessary,
next stage is step back and admire your handywork, go on give yourself a high five, you did it!

so on reflection i should have measured the internal diameter of the bar end before ordering, but for £34 inc postage its not a bad investment as they do keep a bit of the wind and rain off your gloves,

next step will be a 150cc kit, so i guess ill post some pictures of that too.

    thanks, James
