#1 The long way 'round...03-07-2012, 07:09 AM
Welcome to my computer, MCM forum!
Just registered here and filling the requisite duty of posting an intro.
I'm new to Beijing but not to China. I used to live in Zhuhai and work at the track and I already know some of the registered members of this site.
Anyway, I've come to Beijing to work for Motorway. Located in the 798 art district where everyone is so hip, studying sculptures of giant men with tiny penises through their glass-less glasses. It's like a miniature Shanghai. Or so I was told by a Chinese guy named Pierre carrying a dog wearing a beret.
But I digress. That's just what I do.
You're welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
The only transportation I own right now is a bicycle. I don't have enough money at the moment to purchase anything else. But, in the future, I would definitely like to get a bike. I was thinking about getting a track bike and just riding it around on the street since it seems that it's difficult to get a bike plated anyway. Just mod up some swappable headlight and brakelight for when I ride it on the street. Then, if and when I got a chance to ride it on the track, I would just have to get a set of leathers. Oh... and also lose 50 pounds.

03-07-2012, 09:03 AMWelcome to MCM, MG44. Apart from the long winter, Beijing offers some of the best local motorcycling in all of China -- and I don't mean the little track. Check the MCM ride reports of Chinabiker and you'll get a bit of the flavor. Endless twisty mountain roads, much of them with virtually no traffic. These are not for fast riding, but for beautiful, remote, wilderness riding. Find yourself a dual sport...
cheers!jkp

Thanks, Euphonius.
Yes, I've heard about these lovely mountains roads and, yes, I would love to partake. While I prefer street/sport/racebikes, I'll ride a bengbengche if that's all I can get.

03-08-2012, 03:08 AMDear Bigdamo,
Yes, you certainly did miss something in Beijing. You can ride 30 minutes to the east, north or west and be in twisty road heaven. Not making this up. Oh, and about those mountains. There is at least one peak inside Beijing municipal limits that is 3000m high. You could look it up. The price you pay is insanely bad pollution and traffic and other problems in the city, but compared to Shanghai, Beijing is motorcycle heaven.
cheers!
