#1 strange stalling at idle issue.03-24-2012, 03:06 AM
My '07 shineray 200 enduro will only idle with the choke on. But as soon as i take off in 1st gear i can shut the choke off and it runs great.
I don't know where the pilot mix screw nor the idle are supposed to be set but i did dis-assemble and clean the carb as i got the bike used and
it's been sitting for a year or so.. My best guess would be a clogged idle circuit but i'm not sure how these carbs are setup internally. I'd really like to get this idle problem handled so i can use the bike daily. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

03-24-2012, 04:40 PMsrry it sounded like you had already figured it out :p
shut gas off , drain carb of gas , take bottom carb off , remove jets n soak in carb cleaner
im not framiliar with your model so cant really help ya with your idle speed / mixture settings

Cool, thanks dan. I may sound like i got it all figured out but it's an act. : ) i DID come across some baseline settings while i was searching last night but i live at 4500 feet elevation so i'm guessing i'll have to tinker a bit to fine tune it.
I'm going to pull the carb and see if i can get those pilot passages cleaned out today so i'll report back with results/findings if anybody's remotely interested. :)

Turned out to be nothing more than a dirty carb. I dont know its name but the screw-in jet directly ahead of the main "needle jet" was clogged to the point of
no daylight visible. It had sat for a year or more so the gum was no surprise. Runs and idle perfectly now. I knew nothing about these carbs yesterday and today i have a daily rider bike for $200 because the original owner didn't want to spin a wrench! :) Did i mention this bike has 670 miles on it?..... I dont think it'll run with my XR200R but it's a damn fine commuter/trail bike.

$200? Wow, what a great deal.
Was it the "pilot jet" that you discovered plugged?
Handy little reference on this guy's page ...

I believe it was the pilot lao. it would explain the no idle problem too wouldn't it?

03-25-2012, 09:37 AMGreat thread, great first post, great deal on the bike, great attitude, great outcome! I'm very glad you persisted and got the small assist you needed. And very pleased to see your short philosophical rambling about the meaning of these Chinabikes in today's world.
Welcome to MCM, and keep the good ideas and good attitude flowing!
cheers!jkp

thanks euph, i've never been one to get frightened off by a lack of knowledge. :) I just KNEW it was something simple, i merely had to get to know my way around
these carbs. :)
