#1 Shanghai will ban ALL motorbikes04-04-2012, 03:38 AM
Well, here you go guys, who paid 58.000 RMB for a Hu A license ....
I heard a very serious rumour (which I don't consider a late April fools joke) that Shanghai will ban ALL motorbikes from inside the inner or middle ring, from this coming summer.
Just like hundreds of Chinese cities did before.
Sweet holiday present, right?

04-04-2012, 06:17 AMG'day,
Wouldn' t surprise me one bit, the muppets will do it in the long run, most probably spending three month during the summer on the big island in the South again and of course bringing the bike with me........

04-04-2012, 09:18 AMCan you fill us in with a source, i.e. an English or Chinese newspaper article to back up this rumor?
If they did something like this, then the next question becomes enforcement. To use Guangzhou as an example, they first did a ban with times, i.e from 8am to 5pm, then it was a full-scale ban with a huge propaganda campaign for people to stop riding their bikes and turn them in at various check stations around town. These bikes were then launched onto a truck and carted off to the scrapyard.
If Shanghai is serious about doing something like this in summer, then they would need to provide a full-scale enforcement plan which I've heard nothing about and would take considerable planning to arrange.

Technically Shanghai is one of the 180 some odd cities that have already banned motorcycles, thats why no NEW Hu A's are available, just the recycled ones sold at the plate market. The scarcity is what makes them so expensive.... the rumor mill in China is DEEEEEEPPPPPP!
