    Hello,

I am currently having a Garmin GPS mounted on my bike. It's very helpful and it comes with English/Pinyin map, I've been using it since 3 years and most of the time get right. Nevertheless, it's not always very convenient to check the maps and set up directions or traks.
Any other model for GPS which are working well for motorbike in China?

    Thanks,

    Nicolas

    G'Day,

Used a few GPS before but will pick a Garmin kit up next week and have ordered a PRC Garmin Map on a SD-card as well.
    City Navigator China NT (microSD™/ SD™ https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=253&pID=30217

Do you erperiemce any offset problems with your Garmin GPS in PRC?
Mate picked up a Touratech Garmin GPS Kit for his BMW GS and sees offset up to approx. 400m, apparently Garmin can adjust and correct the offset, time will tell......

Garmin is perfect. i have been satisfied so far but I was just wondering if it exist other model or brand than can be good as well.
My only problem is the friendliness of the mapping system. Sometimes, I wish it could be easier to navigate and select directly from the map.
Also if more options it would be welcome too.
For the China map, it cost 200RMB to update it at Xujiahui Computer mall. They have all the maps you need and at much better bargain...

Garmin China will only correct the offset on garmins bought in China.I think that only applies to maps though.

I was given a patch to fix the offset on the city navigator China but I can't get it to work.I am not that computer savvy though.

I've stated using OSMAnd+ GPS app which I found on my recent trip to Thailand to be really useful and functional, plus the maps are based on OpenStreetMaps data - therefore the OSMAnd maps are updated fairly frequently based on users feedback and input.

I was surprised and relieved to discover that OSMAnd maps are working in PRC without any offset issues... I was able to ride from Boten Border crossing (Laos-China) all the way to Ningbo. Once I crossed the China border I rode to Xishuangbana and stayed overnight at a hotel in Jing Hong. Left Jing Hong approx 10am on 2nd March... arrived home near Ningbo at 7am on 4th March. Had I not got intercepted on the Zhejiang section of the G60 and escorted off the Expressway (twice), my ETA was meant to have been home by 8pm on 3rd March. A total of about 2-3 hours sleep in that time period. Hit rain on the Expressway for about half the trip. The Expressways are 100% safer than the Highways contrary to the Traffic Police statements to the contrary.

I did discover that some of the roads on the OSMAnd are incomplete, which does have an impact on routing choices etc. I hope that in time I can understand how I might be able to add to the PRC map deficiencies and inaccuracies and contribute to the Open Street Map community.

For navigating this trip I used:

    GarminXT on a WinMO device.
    MapAsia on a WinMO device
OSMAnd+ on a Android device (real GPS with offline map functionality and routing)
Sygic Pro on a Android device (real GPS with offline and map functionality and routing but also no PRC maps - unfortunately)
City Maps 2 Go on a Android device (offline map functionality but no routing ability)
GT-Rider maps when in Northern Thailand.
