    Greetings From Thailand,

Sold my V&H modified Harley Davidson XR1200 (~ 100hp at the crank) last week & purchased a new Kawasaki D-TrackerX here in Pattaya

    Great bike but takes some getting used to after the 290kg thundering XR. Pic of my new ride;

Nice bike. The D-tracker looks like the KLX250sf sold in the US all except the exhaust canister. I put an after market seat on my KLX250sf which is much more comfortable.

    Enjoy your new bike.

Yep... Same bike but "made in Thailand", Euro model with cat converter, FI & dual headlights. Tomorrow installing a Tsukigi exhaust, DNA air filter & API ECU. All together supposed to boost power ~ 50%. Shop tells me that top speed will be ~ 150kph. I don't intend to ride that fast but nice to have the extra oomph when passing or up hill.

Ride Safe... Keep the rubber side down

What are the stock (before mods) horsepower and torque ratings of your D-TrackerX?

Out Of The Box Spec is:

    • Maximum Power: 18 (Kw) = 24 (Hp) 9000rpm
    • Maximum torque: 21 (Nm) = 15 (Ft/Lbs) 7000rpm

"Stock" it's a nice bike but the engine feels "strangled"

Did the pipe & air cleaner today but not the ECU unit.

    VERY noticeable difference:

Sounds like an "old" 500cc BSA Gold Star except it revs to 10000rpm very quickly in the lower gears

Pulls much harder & smoother from low to high revs

As I understand with the pipe, air cleaner/air box mods & API ECU it gains ~ 10 Hp

2012 Sept 3: Monday Flash From Pattaya Thailand,

"Delimited" the D-TrackerX engine (ignition advance in top 3 gears is retarded & limits ability to rev) via a simple "paper-clip" inserted into a connector on the handlebar clutch assembly

    Enormous difference

4th gear before "mod" was only 105kph ~ 7500rpm "max"

    4th gear now is 125kph & near 10000rpm

Since there are 6 gears the bike seems way over geared so now will take a look at what final drive gearing will allow full use of all gears with ability to cruise at ~100kph & max speed of ~130kph

The "paper clip" mod is not talked about very much here in the US. The most talked about KLX250SF mod is the 331 or 351 kit.
